I checked which countries have basically blocked entry of U.S. citizens. It's the majority of the world. I feel like I'm in quasi-jail at this point. I'll stand up and say. I've contemplated leaving the country over the last few months. However, given the travel restrictions, and given that there are many places not worth going to, I'm here.
Such silliness over nothing. Of course currently we should not be allowed to enter another country due to our high covid numbers right now. That is the proper thing to do to prevent spread of the virus, and something we did not do effectively whether it was allowing flights in from China and Europe or Gov. Cuomo fighting to allow NYers to go to other states when NYC was the epicenter.
Each locale is at a different stage of the virus. States that were shut down early with little to no virus are now experiencing their first wave. Unless we use draconian measures to physically lock down residents in their locales, this is what will happen. Africa has barely begun its stage, but when it does, it will be bad.
So the places that are currently doing well, don't be so smug. Here in NY our percent of people testing positive is beginning to creep up. With our population density it is just a matter of time until the number of cases start rising again.
Let's see in 6 weeks what the travel restrictions look like. I am sure there will be some changes.
I am not sure if it really matters to the majority of Americans. Most Americans don't really travel internationally anyway. Go ask your friends or family members how many of them own a valid US passport
I never said I run with a complacent crowd. I'm saying that some of the people I know don't care if the USA is basically being told "do not come". My point is that when I tell some people what is going on, they take it with a "whatever" kind of mentality. I actually feel quite disturbed by what's going on around me.

Some of us that want to travel internationally, but can't, it affects us. I know several people who have a passport. My parents have passports.
Nothing like sitting in a transcontinental flight for hours on end with fellow passengers during a pandemic when 30 to 50 percent of the travelers are asymptomatic positive.
Whether we are welcomed or not, use some common sense and put the travel plans on hold.
