I totally agree except our government isn't making that a priority and we have the highest death rate of any country. All the states have opened up their economies to some extent while contact tracing and testing is still inconsistent. Unemployed Americans aren't getting the financial support they need and still have to pay for COVID-19 treatment.
You are mistaken or uninformed that people have to pay for their Covid 19 treatment. The Federal government will re-imburse all health care providers for uninsured patients.

Other than that, we have no clue if we have more Covid deaths than any other nation.
The USA is the 3rd most populus nation on earth. As such, all things equal, we would eventually have the 3rd most Covid deaths of all nations.
Only China and India have more people, and they not as honest, not as transparent, and not as diligent or capable as America. China lies about its cases. India is probably not testing among their 160 million "untouchables" to even see if they have Covid deaths. Nobody really knows the death rate in China or India.
We are the largest single nation that is open, honest, and actually trackind deaths, and it is has been shown time and again that we are vastly over-counting Covid deaths, by counting many people who die WITH Covid as having died FROM Covid. Most don't report the difference between the two. If you are a obese 99 year diabetic with a heart arrythmia and a brain aneurism and your heart stops, you get rushed to the hospital, and your blood draws show Covid 19 infection, then you are declared "died from Covid 19".
It very much remains to be seen if soaring cases today will result in soariing deaths 2 weeks from now. So far, the soaring cases from the protests 2 weeks ago has not come with soaring deaths now. Only time will tell.
Total control of the resources on the planet and to get us all vaccinated.
Notice how every news station and article keeps repeating "this is the new normal until we have a vaccine".

Still, the pharmaceutical companies who would profit off a new Covid 19 vaccine would rather see this disease linger on and on rather than for it to disappear. Nothing person I'm sure, just it would be good business for them if Covid 19 is permanent and the get yet another item with which to gouge hospitals and clinics.
Good question, OP. I thought that the goal was to slow the spread so that hospitals would not be overwhelmed. It appears the goal has shifted to try to avoid anyone getting sick which seems like an impossible feat. How long will this go on?

I am not anti-vaccines. When they work, they work. I am all for them. That and considering that there's a depopulation agenda, yeah it's easy to see why they want to do this. The ones in Africa have made about a million women sterile because of them. Easy to do the math with this one.
Wow. There is nothing going on that cannot be explained with a simple REAL reason, instead of miles of tinfoil hats.
The Goal - Now, and Before, and All Along - is to keep the SIMULTANEOUS number of infections below such a number that whatever % (unknown) need a hospital, it never FILLS the local hospital.
That's it. Lowering the death count is a noble goal - and a happy by product of having better treatments after 4 months - but it was never - and still is not - the main mission. Dead people do not need hospitals.
That's it. Very simple. NOTHING that is being done anywhere cannot be explained by that simple logic. There is no reason to create vast conspiracies. The entire earth, believe it or not, does not revolve around USA politics. But they still have COVID.

"My cousin/aunt/uncle/son works at xx hospital, and they're EMPTY. " Good for them. Really. This is not about their hospital, in that case. It's about one of the others. Look around. Check it out. Hamilton County, Ohio, for instance.
"That hospital has empty beds!!!!" Yep. Ya wanna wait til it's full to take action? What percent full is OK with you?
"My rights are being violated." No more than no shoes no pants no service. Suck it up, buttercup.

Sad to say, even if Hillary were President, you will still have half the nation not listening to a word she says, so in the end it doesn't really matter if Donald or Hillary is in charge during this pandemic, the result will undoubtedly be exactly the same, it's not the leadership it's the citizens!
When you have two polarizing sides in this country, you will NEVER get people to be on the same page, ever.
Most people's goal is to survive and not die. Given that 99% of people survive, it is a very atttainable goal for most.
Another goal of people is to survive financially. Right now that is a huge problem for huge numbers of people. Many workers and small business owners are going broke. They want to open up and the at-risk people should do what they must to protect themselves.
The media wants Trump to lose presidential re-election, so they are throwing everything into the ring trying to make it sound like Nero is fiddling while Rome burns, except it is Trump fiddling while Small Pox II rages through America. If you don't know, Small Pox killed 50 million people per year worldwide. The media wants you to think Covid 19 is as scary as small pox.
Everybody profiting from Covid 19 wants it to go on and on.
Everybody losing during Covid 19 wants it over yesterday.
Normal people want to get back to normal.
Goverments want increasing power and control over the public.
Cities want massive Federal bailouts to pay for their past fiscal mis-management.
Everybody has a different goal.
We were wise to shut things down the first month to insure against Small Pox II. Once we learned that the mortality rate was under 1%, that high-risk was confined to those over 70 and those with multiple serious co-morbidities, and that people under 30 years old were basically immune from harm even if they did spend 3 weeks coughing in bed, and that most people from 30 to 60 years old were at low risk despite the time and discomfort to recover -- right then we should have opened everything up everywhere and taken our hit, allowing people to protect themselves as desired by social distancing, wearing masks, and to take leaves of absences if they wish. Businesses should have been allowed to require masks and reduce capacities, or not, however they chose -- then make it the customers' responsibility to either self-protect or not patronize their business.
After the first month, we should have opened everything and just taken our hit.
Instead, we half bankrupted the country while stretching the timeframe for this disease much longer than it should have been.
The naysayers kept moving the goal posts from preventing deaths, to preventing hospitalizations, now to preventing mere cases.
It is like they are trying to hurt people financially and bankrupt the economy -- which is exactly what Trump's many enemies want. They hope that by forcing us into a deep recession, voters will reject Trump for Biden.
We'll see.
Don't even get me started on the government demading people stay locked up in their dark homes for 2 months increasing their already bad Vitamin D deficiencies, when they should habe been out in direct sunlight as much as possible to maximizse their Vitamin D production.
