Haven't decided who to believe in this story... I'm leaning that it wasn't intentionally a message of racism.

I personally often use a hangman's noose for utility purposes.... a few are holding up sail shades in my backyard right now. It is a very effective knot especially around water..... when additional loops add friction to the slip knot.

I guess that's why I probably more likely to think it was unintentional.

Now one hanging with no purpose in front of a door residence/home... that's a different story.. context matters.

No, it didn't do that. The article doesn't even CLAIM that any of the terms have their roots in racism, except "uppity".

Further, Bubba never reported it - his crew chief did after another member of the crew notified him of it. Were a bunch of the garages' pull-downs tied this way? Lots of loops, only one tied up with the multiple coils above the loop, evidently.

So, while it doesn't seem that it was aimed at Bubba specifically, that pull-down is intentionally tied to look like a noose.

So?

if you've ever actually used a rope to pull down a garage door, one could argue that the design actually makes it easier to use.

The loop and the knots give you something to grab onto making the heavy door easier to pull down.

And even if it was intentionally fashioned to look like a noose, who was it aimed at if it wasn't Bubba?

Honestly I don't think people care as long as it is in benign context....

I used the word "picnic" around my black friends (they all know it is a myth of a racist background) but they do jokingly take jabs at me for doing so.... same with serving uncut watermelons.. (which I believe came from an old racist cartoon.. )

How come the list only included words with negative racial connotations against black people?

Are they going to do separate lists for whites, Asians, Hispanics, etc?

The phrase "master bedroom" first appeared in the 1926 Sears catalog
wasn't slavery already abolished by then? personally I thought the term existed long before the 1900's.

more importantly, the words master and slave do not denote race or color so many of the points made in the article are moot.

Again.. context matters.. in this tech topic as well as the wider general use in common language.

I doubt it will go any further than this thread... there have been decades of articles on these terms well before computers. It is silly to think that the vast majority of those wanting better/equal treatment are hung up solely on such trivial things....
i didn't know that only whites could be masters and blacks slaves.

I thought you were all so well informed that you didn't watch or need to pay attention to CNN. Guess I was wrong.
