Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz will “soon” introduce legislation that will hold city officials financially responsible for damaged property and injuries sustained from rioting.

“Sen. Cruz is working on a legislative proposal that will hold city officials financially responsible for the property damages and personal injuries that result from their decision to allow autonomous zones and/or order officers to stand down in the midst of rioting and looting,” a spokesperson for Cruz’s office told The Daily Caller.

If they're not already liable for it of course. I think they are. But upping the ante on the matter should be interesting. This will get sent to the Democrat controlled House and it will be interesting to see what they do with it. Strike it down and it'll look like they don't care about the victims of these rioters. Letting it come to a vote would make the Communist mobs angry. Actually passing the bill would infuriate the Communists.

I always hesitate to praise any expansion of the power of the federal government but this is a case where the rights of the people are being trampled and their state and local governments are doing jack squat about it.

Financially responsible.....as in paying out of their own pockets? I can't think of any employer who would demand an employee to pay out of their own pockets when they are not happy with the outcome of their work. The punishment is getting fired.

Well, that should discourage people from running for such offices. People who have not managed to accumulate any personal wealth might still run, but who else would risk losing it all for making a bad call?

Whether or not they can keep, or lose, everything they have worked for is in the hands of the jury and the persuasion of political opponents.

Can we keep Governors, Congressmen, Senators and White House officials also financially responsible for their screw-ups? Maybe some Governors should start forking out some money to the surviving family members of those who died of the virus due to their negligence. Where does it end, and who decides when a local politician should be stripped of their wealth for making a bad call at work?
