That's a nice rewrite.

The South was running scared that the precious institution of "negro slavery " wasn't going to survive in a Union that was growing increasingly anti-slavery. And we know that was their motivation, because they wrote down that yup, that was indeed their motivation.

This is why you should not get your history lessons from statues.

The North was regulating what the South could make. They were not allowed to have manufacturing plants that competed with the North. The North controlled congress so they could do what they want. Remember, Lincoln was not anti slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation only affected slavery in the states that had seceded. According to legal scholars, the states had the legal right to secede because the North had violated the "states rights" part of the Constitution. Lincoln was a criminal.

Britain and Mexico were not traitors to the U.S. Constitution.

That's not fair - we don't choose our ancestors.

I'm from the South.

The reason people display the flag is racism and antisemitism. Full stop. Sure, there may be some heritage baked in there, but the confederate flag disappeared in the years after the Civil War. Its resurgence was paired with the surge of violence from the KKK.

There are lots of ways to be proud of being Southern: a really great biscuit recipe, a well-used greens pot, a bootleg Charlie Daniels tape from the county fair, and a lifetime of stories from late nights at the town Waffle House. But a Confederate flag? Yeah, we all know what that means.

The Confederates LOST. Why fly the flag? It just seems the most anti American thing someone could do.

Also, why do we have statues of Confederate leaders who betrayed their county and lost the war?
For the same reason that Germans fly the swastika.

And Texans fly the Mexican tri-color.

Bc if they don't, we'll forget about the history.

I too grew up in the South.. I agree.... It isn't uncommon to have various racist groups march and make a showing at my university. Many.. Not all.. flying the Confederate flag.

With that said, they can fly whatever they want.. On their own property

Really? Shocking that society would have an objection to flying the flag of a vanquished enemy, especially one that represents a hateful ideology.

It is illegal to fly the Nazi flag in Germany.

That's an excuse... You fly a flag to show support. You keep them in the history books and museums for history.

Yes it is illegal in Germany... It is considered hate speech and an instrument of intimidation. It is relegated to the history books and educational purposes.

A while back a collector purchased one of Hitlers official vehicles... It could not fly its banners until it ade it to US shores. It sits restored in a car museum.... Again for historical automotive context. It is a beauty of German engineering, sad its historical ties with Hitler but a wonderful machine none the less..
