I'm reading this on "Jalopnik" - which is free to anyone with Internet access. There is a really long piece with comments included. Bottom line is, employees at Ford Motor Company think the Ford Explorer is way too intimidating and a sign of oppression. Therefore, Ford shouldn't sell it to the Police.

I wonder now, what would be a suitable replacement, and I do hope members here can suggest something better. My vote goes to the Fiat 500, unless the legendary Yugo is revived - keep dreaming, mgforshort.

Then again, a moped ? Mountain bikes would be a good choice, just don't tell the home invaders that the closest station is 10 miles from your house.

In a perfect world the officers gun should be replaced with slingshots or baseball bats.

We live in interesting times. Comments, please.

Interesting times, all right. You're being VERY diplomatic in saying that. If I said what I truly feel about the "current times", I'd most likely be banned from this website!

Well of 190,000 Ford Employees, a grand total of 100 questioned Ford over this.
Just as a note, this was the lead story on USA Today's Money Section. Folks wonder why the media is held with such distain!

Man if Henry Ford was alive today those 100 workers would be escorted to the other side of the factory fence and told not to come back.

You have to wonder if the line workers they work with would like to beat them with wrenches. Look we are making good money, good benefits so **** and get back to work!

Cars don't kill people. People kill people.

This isn’t a Ford issue, it’s a Police department issue. Leave Ford out of this. We need first responder vehicles in America. If the Police department misuses it to hurt people the blame is sorely on them and their mismanagement.
Ford has no control over what customers do with their vehicles after purchasing them, and has every right to combat racism head on while making police vehicles. The existence of a police car is not racist. It’s the political alignment of departments with right wing fanatics that is an issue.

Politics has no place in the work place. If these employees are so disgusted by Ford manufacturing and making police vehicles, they need to quit and go to work for a company that welcome political activists like Nike. If those same folks addressed Nike use of child labor or their unscrupulous business practices, I'm sure even there they would be escorted to the door!

YES THEY DO...............just like Budweiser is responsible for what the general public does with their products, after it's in the public's hands................

Sure would!! These "activists" need a SERIOUS lesson in reality.

Thats the problem these people have no lives, nothing real in their own relationships and daily lives to focus on. So they search for anything to fill the void of their existence.

Some who have the time and a real interest just might want to do some
research on the Ford Foundation, who sits on the board and where donations go.

Then take a look into Ford Motor Company.

We need to rename the Explorer as it's certainly a racist term. 1) Spanish Explorers decimated the native American population during the founding of our country, certainly racist. 2) English Explorers brought their tobacco corporations to the new world and brought slavery with them, also racist.

May I suggest that the Ford Explorer be forever known now as the Ford X.

Also, the Ford Fiesta is racist towards Mexicans.
The Ford Expedition is racist to Hispanics because Dora the Explorer is on an expedition right now.
The Ford Mustang is racist as we stole them from native Americans.
The Ford Escort is racist against prostitutes. Especially ones of color.
The Ford Taurus is racist because we slaughter bulls and they have feelings too.

I can go on and on and on....

In fact, automakers just need to name their cars... Meh. Ford Meh, built Ford Meh Tough.
