America is all about freedom? Garbage. This virus doesn't give you freedom, it took it away. Do you think Australian's don't like their freedom?

Lets look at Adelaide, population 1.6 million. Home of 438 Covid cases and 4 deaths. Australia has 25 million people, yet, their Covid cases for the whole continent was 6,762. That's less than oh I don't know, pick a state.

What do you think they did that was different from us closing restaurants, swimming pools, movie theaters, stay at home orders? Not a God.....thing. The difference was that they did it EARLY!!!!
They banned travel from China, Iran, South Korea and Italy IN EARLY MARCH. While Trump was lying and gas lighting about this until what? February?

Australia made a mistake by allowing a cruise ship to disembark in Sydney in March. Over 600 cases and 15 deaths were attributed to that mistake. So far Trump's irresponsible Covid rally in Tulsa has been linked to 500 cases. How many deaths still remains to be seen. Buy hey, freedom right?

As cases climbed in March the country shut down all large gatherings, bars, gyms, cinemas and places of worship were all closed. EARLY! Check, we did that as well, only our governor here in Illinois did it early. Our infection rate is still under 5. Some states that have politicized this? Not doing so well although they had ample time to prepare.

Don't give me this happy talk about freedom. All countries dealing with this virus have followed the same lock down close up wear a mask and social distance playbook. The difference between their success and our failure is EARLY and SWIFT intervention.

Taiwan has a stellar pandemic office and instituted early testing and tracing. You know like we had once upon a time in 2018 and up until recently when we had a first class CDC instead of this weak, ineffective failed to give us a Covid test early CDC.

The difference between an effective response to Covid is not about freedom. That's just more trained seal look over there rhetoric. The difference between an effective response is SCIENCE and following that vs some gas bag gas lighter that doesn't have a clue how to deal with this other than using the same con man look over there lies and deceit he's used his entire life. Freedom my eye. The sooner we all roll up our sleeves and do the right thing, the sooner our freedom will be restored. It's that simple.

You're right, we can't compare America to other countries, except maybe third world ones that haven't the resources to fight this, and that's pathetic.

I guess you didn't understand my point. You have to consider the people of America V other countries. People take their freedom very seriously here where in other places they listen to the authorities and the authorities are allowed to crack down on their populace harder than they do here in the states. Imagine being locked in your house by the Police as happened in China and they would bring you rice every few days.

The freedom we all enjoy comes from hard headed stubborn people that carry the ideal of "Live Free or Die". There are many Americans that simply refuse to be locked down for any length of time because they feel it is a violation of their God given Rights.

I still don't understand why we can't have a wedding (with no dancing allowed) or a funeral with more than 25 people present but the mob can go out in force and trash the neighborhood and dance on destroyed Police cars? I guess "freedom" walks a thin line there...

This is not Trumps fault because this attitude has been present since day one. Do you really think Obama or Hillary would have handled this any differently? Heck early on while Trump was trying to limit travel and he was being called a racist top Dems like Pelosi and Cuomo were telling people to get out and go to China town, go see a show. If this happened under Obama's watch he could have locked down the entire country but guess what people would still be out and getting together without masks or distance.

The virus took us all by surprise both Dem and Rep alike and the only difference with the Trump response and one that Obama, Hillary of even Biden would have had is that the media would have been on their side with whatever message they had for people.

Look at who we have as president. He called this pandemic a Democrat hoax. So much for his knowledge of anything. He is a moron just like anyone who has ever worked for him says.

As someone who is half Vietnamese and travelled to Vietnam at least a dozen times, i'll chip in.

-Vietnam has one of the youngest population in the world, so that helps. 1/3 of the country 100 million population born after 1975

-Vietnamese always wear face mask or face cover to protect their face and nose from dust and sun exposure because the majority of the population use scooter as their main transportation.

-Centralized government. No explanation needed.

-Vietnam health care and hospitals are terrible and they know it. They know their country will be a disaster if covid is not under control from the start.

-Vietnam and along with many SE Asia countries are familiar with pandemic. This is not their first time.

-Some medical experts say that TB vaccination can help with covid. Every vietnamese born in Vietnam has TB vaccination. You can tell if a person was born in Vietnam if he or she has a small scar on their left arm from TB vaccination

Ya. And, the irony is numbing. "Free" isn't doing what you want. Now, look at us. If we had all restricted ourselves, everyone fair and square without the moaning and hesitation, we'd be a lot freer now.

It also shut it's border with China that same day. During that time, Vietnam's case numbers were still only in the single digits, but the country did not stop there. Schools were set to reopen on February 3 after the week-long Lunar New Year holiday – the first new school week since the virus was first detected in Vietnam on January 23. But classes nationwide were scrapped, despite only eight diagnosed cases at the time in a country of 95 million. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called the fight against COVID-19 the “Spring General Offensive of 2020,†a reference to the name of North Vietnam’s final push against Saigon in 1975 at the end of the Vietnam War.

By the middle of April, community spread had apparently stopped. By May 14, Vietnam had notched 29 consecutive days without a locally transmitted case. The country has reported a grand total of only 288 cases of COVID-19, with no deaths.

Compare that to the United States, where there are over 100k+ deaths, the pandemic is still raging out of control, and millions of new cases are still cropping up. Even if you account for size differences in population, extrapolation of Vietnam's numbers show how utterly pathetic the US has been at controlling the problem. Imagine if people just listened and sacrificed a few weeks longer in May/early June. We'd be out of the woods by now, but because of stupidity, stubbornness, and inept government response, we will have to deal with this for many months longer. Many thousands more will die, and it will continue to hammer our economy for much longer than it should have. It's quite pathetic we call ourselves the greatest country in the world yet we can't even beat a country like Vietnam (who is supposedly less advanced than we are according to Americans). First they defeat us in war, then they eat our lunch at taming the virus. The differences in results are mind warping. But let me guess, this is where you blame 'fake numbers' and 'fake news' right? Let's also remember Vietnam is much closer to where the outbreak epicenter than we are, yet got it under control like pros.
Taiwan distributed Hydrochloriquine and zinc to all its citizens.

In just the last 6 month's we've lost more than double the number of our soldiers killed in all the Vietnam War.

Just look at the neighbors in the North. 300 cases nationwide today. Prime Minister wears a mask and yet Canada is still in Phase 2. It is sad to witness what is happening in the Southern States.

Lol. Taiwan acted swiftly and early (you know, as opposed to some countries):

1. Coherent and consistent messaging and communication by the authorities
2. Proactive response
3. Massive contact tracing
4. Massive use of masks very early on, with plentiful availability (they ramped up production multifold extremely quickly)
5. multi-layered screening and monitoring system at airports and other points of entry
6. Quarantine for all arrivals

etc.

It looks like some states with high number of new cases are democrat controlled states, the same states that supported mass riots with no regards for CDC guidelines. But now it's Trump's fault. Even if the number of cases are much lower, they would still blame it on their political opponent. I blame China for the virus and for their propaganda to divide Americans.
