President Trump is pushing Democrat leaders to open schools in their states, suggesting that they may want to keep public schools shut "for political reasons".
President Trump pushed for schools to reopen this fall in a series of tweets Monday afternoon, accusing Democrats of wanting to keep schools shut “for political reasons.”
However, the American Academy of Pediatrics is urging officials to allow children to be physically present in the classroom come fall. "After weighing what we know about children and the coronavirus, we really strongly advocate that the goal should be to have students physically present in the school," AAP President Dr. Sara Goza told "The Daily Briefing" Monday. "Children learn more in school than just reading, writing and arithmetic," she went on, suggesting that long-term at-home learning can affect children's social and emotional skills, diet, exercise, mental health support "and other things that just cannot be provided online."
And after a testy exchange with Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., himself a doctor, and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci during a Senate hearing last week, the two seemed to find themselves in agreement over the need for children to be present in schools. “I feel very strongly we need to do whatever we can to get the children back to school. I think we are in lock agreement with that,” Fauci said when Paul asked for “certitude” on whether schools should reopen.
As shown in the quotes above, healthcare leaders President Dr. Sara Goza of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Dr. Fauci are in agreement, or at least they were the last time they spoke to this issue. Senator Rand Paul and Dr. Fauci had a testy exchange about certain aspects of Fauci's testimony during his testimony at a Senate hearing last week. But on this issue, they are in agreement.
The kids are virtually impervious to this virus. It is no harder on them that the regular crud that goes around every year. Since this is not going away any time soon - it could easily be years - we have to protect those most at risk and everyone else needs to get back to it.
The Trump kool aid is if one doesn't walk lock step with HIM they now hate America.
Baloney
Trump NEEDS to listen to the experts and stop making this virus political.
There are no true "experts" with regards to this virus. None. Zero.
An expert is someone who truly knows and has mastery over a subject. An expert is not just someone who has studied a matter more than other people, but still does not know very much about it anyway, as is the case with the people that you would label as "experts" with regards to the coronavirus.
I wish there was a person who actually is an expert about the coronavirus. Sadly, there is not any such person now, and it does not appear that there is likely to be any time soon. If we are smart, we will be aware of that whenever we listen to people being falsely touted as "experts" on this or any other topic going forward.
A massive number of democrats feel entitled to the free daycare service and free meals provided by the public school system.
President Trump appears to be targeting these comments primarily at the Democrat state leaders, and is probably doing this because he agrees with what you are saying. He will be supported by many Democrats who will regard the schools being locked down next year as bad policy and an unimaginable burden on them and their families, including the kids.
President Trump knows this is a clear loser for the Democrat party, but that its leaders will be be inclined to try to keep the schools shut down in hopes that it causes harm to our country in a way that damages him leading up to the election in November. As far as the damage that these Democrat governors cause to perhaps 50-100 million other Americans, as they say, 'to make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs'.
We cannot shut down the schools long term. They must reopen in the fall.
Would it make sense to assess the situation in the fall as opposed to making the call now
Even Trump couldn't explain what political reason Dems have to keep schools closed. He just said it is so, but in doing so he became guilty of the very thing he was accusing them of.

Ok maybe we should say those with the most knowledge about this virus & that surely isn't this president.

The fall term starts roughly in the middle of August (August 17th?) in most places. It is currently July 7. That is just under 6 weeks until the fall semester starts.
They do not have to decide today, but they will need to decide in the next couple of weeks at the latest. The fall term is almost here and there does have to be some sort of advance lead time.
Fl where my grands go, they gave three options. In school, part in school part at home, and at home. Let see how long that lasts.
