Defunded.

so it's not about the virus after all. Glad to see they understand that. with them it's about holding your kids hostage to their demands. They and their Union being deeply connected to the CPUSA which coincidentally commands the DNC. What a surprise.

Oversimplification of the paper.

I read the paper and the paper did address how they could secure more funding to provide the resources to ensure the safety of kids and staff -- including defunding police and putting a moratorium on charter schools as they deplete the availability of funds for public schools.....but there was way more to the paper.

And there was nothing that suggested that these 2 conditions were no negotiable.

Overwhelmingly the main concern is the health of the community.

Unfortunately COVID impacts Hispanics and Blacks more than any other race and this has dire consequences for this community.

Forcing school boards to return before they can properly implement policies and acquire resources to ensure the safety is the biggest concern.

But none of that has been addressed by any conservative outlet.

Because that's the biggest concern critics of Trump's push to open schools -- the opening at all costs without consideration for the safety of the kids, the staff, the community.

Close the public schools, and fire all the teachers. Assign a voucher to each student in the amount that would have been spent on them. Rent the public school buildings to charter and outright private school operators, and let them take and collect the vouchers. Put in place a testing regime to ensure the kids getting the vouchers are learning something.

Problem solved.

Are they intending to be paid during time off? If not then ok.

The chances of school age kids being harmed by C-19, is less than them being harmed in a Democrat-controlled city. They will be safer in school than at home in downtown: NYC, DC, Philly, LA, Baltimore, Detroit, Seattle, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago, Stockton, Memphis, ect..

Plus, parents can't return to work with kids out of school, & the extended ramifications of that is much worse than any harm that might come to them in school.

Teachers and school workers over 50 are the vulnerable ones as schools re-open. They'll be dropping like flies of illness, quitting, & retiring.

I conducted a poll of employed Americans, and 100% of respondents voted to stay home, and be paid (like Teachers), rather than not return to work.

Let's re-poll the Teachers again..here's the poll questions:

1) would you like to stay home and not be paid

or,

2) return to work, and be paid?

Trust me, the results would be nowhere near 83% voting to stay home and NOT being paid.

TEACHERS...go to work, or quit now so we have ample time to replace you, before school starts. Sitting home, and getting paid, is no longer an option..that gravy train is over.

Unfortunately common sense is very uncommon. I live in Texas , they will most likely try to open as per Tthe board directives. And I wouldn't be surprised to see maskless kids( due to their higher level of perceived intellect and their parents are here in this thread too bashing cali as usual )

Exactly! These teachers will still demand full pay for two hours of online teaching, and relying heavily on the parents to do a lot of the actual teaching themselves. Some parents may even have to take a leave of absence, without pay, if their children are still young. So.....

Teachers who insist in staying home: get half the paycheck with the other half divided among the teaching parents
Teachers who go to school: full pay

Indeed, soon or later, these teachers will be replaced just how McDonald's replaced cashiers: by robots!

Teachers who insist in staying home: a robot will replace you.
