So...we're being told that simply wearing face masks will stop the virus. SEA countries results back in January-February seem to bear this out. Many countries did not shut down, did not destroy their economy-wore masks and their cases died out very quickly. They tested incoming travelers, isolated those that tested positive.

Instead...we listened to our CDC and other "experts" such as Dr. Fauci. We were told for months that masks didn't work and that we should not wear them. The CDC said "we got this" regarding developing test kits-and screwed the pooch hard, costing us a month when testing might have actually allowed us to isolate infected individuals and shut down income travel from infected areas.

Instead, we "shut down" our economy for months. Put 30 million Americans out of work. Destroyed hundreds of thousands of small businesses, and destroyed the life's work and savings of many. We let violent criminals out of prison and jails, out of concern for their safety. Criminals that have gone on to commit more crimes, and slaughter more innocent people.

If simply wearing a mask works....

Why did we destroy our economy?

Why did we cost 30 million people their income?

Why did we destroy the life's work of so many people?

Why did we close schools, sacrificing the education of our youth?

Why did we deny graduating seniors a graduation ceremony? If masks protect BLM/Pantifa rioters and grocery store workers, why not a graduation?

Rather than releasing criminals and sacrificing the safety and security of American citizens...why didn't we hand out masks in our jails and prisons?

And if mask work...why are some states threatening to "roll back" phased openings?

Finally-if masks work-why do we need to vote by mail?

It's hard to ignore or cover up just how much the "experts" have gotten wrong. Masks don't work. Don't touch anything! Wash hands every 5 minutes (we now know the Chinabug doesn't readily transmit from surfaces). Asymptomatic carriers are a huge risk...until they aren't. Antibody tests are critical to know how widespread this is...yet we don't have any widespread studies. Is it simple incompetence from our CDC and other government experts? Or something more? Oh-and since we know that this bug isn't readily transmitted from surfaces...just why are some places going "cashless"? And how is handling cash more dangerous than punching buttons on a keypad that everyone uses?

It is a deadly virus--it is definitely real.

But the media, in partnership with Democrat and the left sponsors (think George Soros), helped blow the virus way out proportion and make it seem like it was scary and similar to a virus like ebola or the bubonic plague.

This helped turn the virus political and that was their strategy. Lock everything down for 2-3 months, destroy the economy and use the virus as the reason.

Couple the virus with the Democrat and the left sponsored BLM and the riots/protests/violence of ANTIFA, all aided by folks like George Soros, and it's all part of the plan to dump all of the blame on President Trump.

This virus could've been squashed and rarely heard of by March/April, had Trump not been the President of the US. That is the key.

Under a Democrat, or not so hated Republican president, the virus would've been a deadly nuisance but not as panic-driven, and a shorter term blip, rather than an economy destroyer mechanism.

I think if we were to impose such drastic measures our "leaders" owed the country a rigorous review and debate of all facts. What happened was in the opposite. In the end political pressure, emotional reasoning and half-ass science won over rigor and critical reasoning. Either way it will hurt the ordinary folk the most.

Yes, definitely.
Back in 2010, when SARS hit, there wasn't nearly the hysteria that there is with COVID. For the record, I got the flu shot, and despite that, I contracted H1N1. I was out of commission for about five days. It was no picnic in the park.
COVID, as SARS (H1N1) is highly contagious, as we know. We also know that Mother Nature will do her thing, and we also know that the virus is airborne. So, logic would dictate that we will all be exposed.
The most we can do is mitigate the damage, i.e., protect the elderly and vulnerable. The best we can do is to get on with our lives, get back to work, and realize that we may have to learn to live with this virus. Keep in mind, although there are promising indicators with a vaccine available in the near future, not all vaccines are effective.
To politicize the virus and attempt to irreversibly damage the economy helps no one, and, I suspect, is the end game for the Democrats to regain power.

No, you're imagining things...... Once Biden gets elected (which I think what will happen unfortunately) you will see an immediate shift in tone on coronavirus, based on nothing more than virtue signaling out of the new White House designed not to solve an actual problem, but to appease the masses.

First, wow, conspiracy theory much around here? If the plan was to wreck the economy to hurt Trump (couldn't Trump have done what a Democratic president would have done?), why have so many other countries worldwide suffered too? Did they all tank their economies to hurt Trump too?

Second, no one has said that masks are the magic cure. As someone else said:

It's about blunting the transmission. Yes, there was some confusion early on, and, yes, Fauci said we didn't need to wear them, but that was early on, when cases were very low.

If we had done aggressive testing and contact tracing, we could have gotten this under control without shutting things down, tanking the economy, and ending up with the highest case and death counts on the planet. But we didn't, and that's on Trump.

Also, RE "get on with our lives," "everyone will get it," etc.: The point of blunting transmission is so that we don't overwhelm hospitals and end up with a situation like Italy faced, where they had to decide who to treat and who not to treat because they had literally run out of ICU beds and ventilators.

If we let a highly contagious disease like this run rampant through our towns and cities, we'll swamp hospitals. This isn't that hard to understand.

Economy was already going south long before the covid.
Covid just sped that up a little bit.
Six months from now you'd think of today as of golden age of peace and prosperity.
