I don't really buy that either. It is absolutely well known when a federal judge is married to a defense attorney, no one would try to take out the defense attorney at the federal judges's home, knowing that the feds would bring all their powers to find them.

The fact that the person dressed up as a UPS person, knowing federal judges are at not at work due to covid.. imho is the key.

That right there is complete and utter BS. Once people start scaring away defense attorneys (who will, by definition, quite often have utter scumbags as clients), we may as well throw away the entire idea of an adversarial court system. A defendant in court is one person facing the full might of government, and we do not want to encourage government to do anything less than their full and due diligence.

It's been tried in several systems that we'd rather not compare ourselves to.

How many other defense attorney's who aren't married to a federal judge have had this kind of attack? Not many.

It was the Judge the shooter was after. Total luck she was in the basement at the time.

Good point. Other attorneys - and judges - have been murdered because of their involvement in cases once the scumbag is out of prison.

At least admit that you are stupid for blaming DHS.

Also, nowhere in the news mentions the judge was under federal protection by US Marshal. But if they do get protective detail, they would get it from the Marshal.

This is very disturbing. I heard very recently that the gunman was found with "self inflicted" gunshot wounds, though can't confirm yet. There are many theories here. It could be related to the Deutsche Bank case, or any number of cases she worked on in the past. Her husband is a defense attorney, so it could be a former unhappy client, or the family member of the victim of a former happy client. It could also be related to the son. He was 20 and the only one killed. Maybe he owed someone money. Lots of questions, I hope we get some answers.

I read the below in the article. Assume it is the suspect but no name given.

"The suspect was later found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound near Liberty, New York, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News. A municipal employee discovered the body in a car.

The deceased suspect was an attorney who had a case before Judge Salas in 2015, sources said. A FedEx package addressed to Judge Salas was discovered in the car, sources said."

And here we go with the conspiracy theories no doubt. Convenient that no one is left alive to confirm the motive. I could write an entire suspense novel based on the possibilities of the back story to this case.
