Go ahead and urge the mob on, but when the mob finally comes for you and yours, don't cry about it, cuz no one will be left to wipe your tears.
That's what I'm afraid of. So far, it seems to go like this:

Confederate statues--okay, I see why.

Columbus--again, I see why.

Thomas Jefferson--they're losing me here.

The Virgin Mary--NO WAY, Mary??

The Elk statue in Portland---Huh?? I think they just want to tear stuff down.

So when the run out of statues, what then? Books? Buildings? People?

But even with the statues of questionable people, I think there should be a vote, or an orderly process.

So when do you take it down? Many of these statues are coming down one way or another.

In my city there were calls for a statue be moved away from a sensitive spot. Nothing happened. They just wanted it moved to a more appropriate place...not destroyed. Nothing happened. These early requests were not by demonstrators but people with some standing in the community. Nothing happened. Finally, there is a prayer vigil and protest demonstration and the group opts to remove it on their own. The camo-clad armed whack-job militia shows up to escalate the episode and someone gets shot. The statue is then promptly removed by the city. They could have easily avoided the entire episode and the shooting and the arrests and the militia confrontation and the ill will by taking action early. The case for moving the statue was a valid one from the start.

Did they put it up for a public referendum and a vote? And then reneged?

This is more proof of incompetent and impotent government bowing to covert interests. Stressing the populace to see how much they'll endure before revolting / reacting is a time honored practice.
Hope you all like being guinea pigs.

It seems the city apparently never considered the issue worthy of that level of attention. They might not have fully understood the angst and anger over what they saw as just a piece of public art. There would have needed to be a public awareness campaign as most people, especially newer transplants, would not have been well versed in the history 400 years ago when this guy was chopping off hands and feet and branding people.

It seems that's the way to go--to organize, get a public awareness campaign, and put it on the ballot. Posters, social media, op-eds, etc. I think if people really organize well, and garner community support, it can get done the right way.

I'm just really afraid of people just taking things down, because I wonder what is next if that becomes normal. And then you get warring factions, like you mentioned above.

They are even defacing or tearing down statues and monuments of white and black abolitionists, and statues paid for and approved of by former slaves, and the monuments erected for black Civil War soldiers.

The people behind the violence these past few weeks are anarchists, Marxists, who hate America and everything it stands for., which is why all statues are coming down The sad thing is, many Democrats hold those same views.

he average person is asleep at the wheel, buying into the notion that this is about racial equality and improving black lives, when blacks are being murdered in record numbers. The Marxists and anarchists are moving their agenda forward and its all getting lost in the politically charged hate-Trump mania, and people actually think Black Lives Matter is looking out for the welfare of black lives.

I'm afraid the norm is becoming, if the woke, and their cancel culture fascism, decide that they don't like something, it must go away, and if we disagree we are just asking for the violence to descend upon our city, or our house.

They are completely out of control, and the media keeps repeating the BS "these are peaceful protest". More than 28 reported dead, probably more than that. Guess 28 means none to our leftisy Medi folks"
