Only if the kid agrees. So he is OK with keeping the outcome secret. Indicates he really did not do very well.
No it doesn't. If the Washington Post got off easy, they would want it publicized.
Then they could say "we just paid him to make him go away, we didn't do anything wrong"
Why would the plaintiff's attorneys agree to both a small settlement and a nondisclosure agreement that only benefits the defendant?
The WA Post did not want this to go to trial because the evidence entered might include many other instances of intentional lies and distortions. They would not be hard to find.

The kid and his lawyer have a significant problem. They could very well lose. As I said before the Diocese and the High School badly undercut the kids case. I doubt the kid was actually funding the suit so his attorney has a substantial motivation to get it settled without the large cost of a potentially losing trial. It could be a case that actually bankrupts an attorney. That is a hell of a motivator.
And again if the kid was sincere he would force it to be open...A 20 million or so settlement would certainly make his case. But that did not happen.
So everybody made a deal and made it go away. No other rational explanation.
Doubt it. More likely a little more than the WP thought they would spend defending it. Simply a cut your losses strategy.
Interesting that none of the settlements are going public. You would think if the kid was as motivated as he claims he would force it out in the open. But apparently money talks louder.
Most settlements require a non-disclosure clause. My wife received a settlement and she had to sign a non-disclosure statement.

Are you trying to defend what CNN and WAPO did to him? By the way, what ever happened to the fake Vietnam vet Nathan Phillips, who started this whole thing? Have we had any follow up stories from anyone in the MSM about that "war hero"?
The kid is the aggressor. The 250 million set that clearly. But apparently his strong sense of correcting the wrong is not a big deal when it gets to money.
The media has nothing to prove and is just trying to minimize cost.
And in my opinion the media would end up winning these cases. The problem the kid has is both the school and the diocese initially agreed with the charge. They were also wrong but they give the media a good defense in the initial reporting.
So the media is settling to put the thing to bed not because they fear losing.
No. They give him a case against the school and diocese. He's probably already gotten apologies from them.

Of course he did not get $20 million and never expected to.
The attorneys knew it would be settled out of court.
The details of this case deeply undercut the credibility of the news media. There was intentional editing of the video and images and suppression of facts.
And when the media loses all credibility what else do they have?
The WA Post knows it is money well spent.

This guy obviously doesn't have kids.
He should pretend he does and imagine that numerous media organizations repeatedly lies about his child and lead to death threats against his child and his family, as well as smearing his reputation nationally.
That's what a jury would think about. It is a guaranteed huge loss for the media companies. No lawyer wants to send that to a jury.
