The kid is the aggressor. The 250 million set that clearly. But apparently his strong sense of correcting the wrong is not a big deal when it gets to money.
The media has nothing to prove and is just trying to minimize cost.
And in my opinion the media would end up winning these cases. The problem the kid has is both the school and the diocese initially agreed with the charge. They were also wrong but they give the media a good defense in the initial reporting.
So the media is settling to put the thing to bed not because they fear losing.
"THe kid is the aggressor"? What planet do you live on? Did you actually watch the videos of the racist Indian and his racist gang surrounding the child, beating is little dime-store tom-tom in his face and screaming racist comments at Sandmann and those with him? The fake Vietnam Vet stolen-valor POS is a racist and a ******. One that unfortunately won't be held accountable. Now, with his new-found wealth, maybe Sandmann can sue him as well. The media helped create the lying narrative that the instigator was the child and not the gang of racists.

The kid is the aggressor against the media outlets. It is quite clear he was not in any way responsible for the initial incident. But he went after the media outlets after they retracted the story.
Wonder how much the kid will personally pocket when is all said and done.
Enough to stir up some White Privilege I would imagine.

The media got their ass pounded into the dirt.
Thank God for that.

The story was confirmed by the High School and the Diocese who agreed the kids had done wrong. At that point the media is publishing what they believe is a confirmed story. Hard to make a case for knowingly reporting falsely when the organization of the purported perpetrators has acknowledged it as true.
And you are simply ignoring reality. The kid has a very weak case and could get everything from a $1.00 judgement to being required to pay the Media costs.
And there was never any real probability of a large settlement. Only way that could happen would be for the court to do it as a punishment to the media outlet. Not going to happen.
Tends to indicate that the ongoing litigation is a shoe string operation unlikely to go anywhere.
The diocese did an internal investigation. They did not admit anything.
Your entire argument revolves around the fact that you THINK there was no case. You can provide absolutely nothing to back up your claims and keep repeating the same thing using different words.

Always the lies...

About 4 p.m., the Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High issued a joint statement that read, in part:
"We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general. ... We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.

"The kid is the aggressor.", yet is the media who is having to pay up!
