What a fool believes, he sees.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. —As Florida became a global epicenter of the coronavirus, Gov. Ron DeSantis held one meeting this month with his top public health official, Scott Rivkees, according to the governor's schedule. His health department has sidelined scientists, halting briefings last month with disease specialists and telling the experts there was not sufficient personnel from the state to continue participating.

"I never received information about what happened with my ideas or results," said Thomas Hladish, a University of Florida research scientist whose regular calls with the health department ended June 29. "But I
did hear the governor say the models were wrong about everything."

DeSantis (R) this month traveled to Miami to hold a roundtable with South Florida mayors, whose region was struggling as a novel coronavirus hot spot. But the Republican mayor of Hialeah was shut out, weeks after saying the governor "hasn't done much" for a city disproportionately affected by the virus.

He’s a boot kicker and the hurricanes are coming. We are Florida natives- my hope is he loses the next election and northern n nwestern transplants stop coming to Fl. Go to Arizona!
In the meantime. Fl is in survival mode. We will make it.

Need we remind anyone that no matter what the Governor or Trump had to say people would still do what they want?

We all know how the colleges have become bastions of Leftist ideas that are putting out young adults that are against the evils of capitalism and Conservative values. They all hate Trump but they don't really know why. All those smart college educated kids went to Spring Break and partied it up without masks on the Florida beaches.

If the Governor had closed the beaches, remember this was still very early on in the virus threat, the kids would have found another place to go that wasn't closed such as China town in Pelosi's city and Broadway in NYC....

We cannot blame Trump, the Republicans or even the Democrats because people are going to do what they want. People in America do not like being told what to do and in many cases they will do the opposite just to spite someone.

"global epicenter of the coronavirus"

Let's see. Florida has had a total fatality rate of 1.4% of the population, a total of 5,777 deaths.

Meanwhile, NY has had a fatality rate of 7.9% of the population, a total of 32,608 deaths.

Seems to me that NY ( and the other northern states like NJ, MA, NH, etc) all have much higher numbers.

Florida is testing almost 58,000 people per day yet their fatality rate is way lower than the other states were at their peak.

Once fall gets here, Florida and the other southern states will have cases fall and the northern states will increase as more people head inside.

But the main stream media will continue to point to Florida as having killed the world. Higher positive results from increased testing does not mean people are getting sick with it.

Dude, it's not the liberal college kids that are big on spring break. It's the party hearty types.

I guessing that hurricanes will tend to lower the risk of spread by keeping everybody inside and dispersing aerosols. What they probably need to do though is figure out how to set up shelters with COVID-19 in mind.

Deferring to the Chamber of Commerce and ignoring all his health experts got DeSantis into this mess. Remember he was bragging about his success back in May and claiming the media owed him an apology because his methods were successful.

He pretty much left it up to the mayors and counties to come up with their own policies because he was unwilling to go against Trump and make unpopular decisions.

Bad behavior by young people isn't particular to Florida its common in every state but when you have a leader that is soft on this virus they follow the leader. Cuomo had a unified approach not only inside NY but also with governors of adjacent states. We should have had a national consistent approach as do other countries but we don't even have consistency within the states.

We have Trump telling states to reopen going against his own guidelines and Kemp, Abbott and DeSantis were glad to oblige. They even undermined attempts by local mayors to follow national health policy.

Look at the difference between the northeast states compared to the rest of the nation and tell me what you see.
