Admiral Brett Giroir, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, said at a briefing from the US Health and Human Services Department Thursday that masks and physical distancing could quickly stop the spread of the pandemic.
"If we have that degree of compliance with these simple measures, our models say that's really as good as shutting it down," Giroir said. "These simple facts can really shut down the outbreak without completely shutting down your local area."

Most masks protect the wearer from others and others from the wearer, but the degree to which they protect the person wearing them depends on the mask, according to Dr. Dustin Calhoun. Calhoun, who specializes in emergency medicine at UC Health, said there are studies that look at what the mask is made of.
“There are some studies simply based on the material, that materials that air passes through with particles in them, certain materials do filter that out,” he said.

No one is catching Covid-19 walking past a stranger outside, or even shopping at their local grocery store. That's why these mask mandates are so stupid and clumsy.
People are catching Covid-19 while socializing with their friends, family, etc. It's highly intimate encounters, where maybe you can only find in bars, nightclubs, salons, and other business venues.
But people will be people, I for one plan to keep socializing, going to house parties, and gyms.
Every tyranny throughout history started with the same externalizations.
Your masks are only about you. Don't try to make your masks about anyone other than you.
Good point. On a related note, I'm going to stop using headlights when driving at night. After all, I want to avoid tyranny, so I should be free to do what I want when driving.
