The left of today has become Orwell's "1984" realized, with democrats embracing insane totalitarian measures, all under the guise of altruism. Sadly, leftists lack the power of introspection and cannot critically examine what their party has become.
Perhaps if they read "1984" again (and maybe "Animal Farm" and Bradbury's "Farenheit 451") they might gain some insight, but probably not.

Conservatives who object to same sex marriage, history facts, caring for the environment, Harry Potter, etc. are constantly fighting to control the message.
Home schooling kids so they can't be taught the Big Bang Theory and the Theory of Evolution....that is some control stuff for sure.
