I live less than 1.5 miles from where this is happening. It is true that it is only a very small area downtown, really just a couple of blocks around the courthouse. However, I disagree with you that the vast majority of these "protesters" are peaceful. This went on for more than 50 days before Trump sent in federal officers. That was plenty of time for Mayor Wheeler and/or Gov Kate Brown to get things under control. But they were both too afraid of offending the feelings of their progressive allies to do anything about it. The federal government has a right and a duty to protect federal property. Do you remember when Bundy and those other far right "protesters" took over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge? The federal government rightfully went in and removed them. I don't remember many liberals/progressives/Democrats having a problem with that.

Proximity to a crime does not equate to aiding and abetting. In what world would it? Quick, arrest the victim for their proximity to the crime! They aided and abetted their mugger! LOOOL

Of course not. But participating, while not leaving the area, even if you aren't personally throwing molotov cocktails, does make it aiding and abetting. Why do you think the crooks that shoot and kill during a robbery are all charged with murder, even if they never fired a weapon, or only drove the getaway vehicle?
Is 50 days a long time? The civil rights protests spanned two decades.
I don’t remember the civil rights protests of the 1960’s being violent. MLK and the other civil rights leaders used non violence.
The other difference is this current “protest” downtown isn’t really about civil rights or even racism. It’s mostly Antifa, anarchists, and assorted malcontents and wannabes. Don’t try to pretend these are noble people fighting for a just cause.
