I know a few cops. They have all said that domestic cases are their least favorite things to respond to. Emotions are often out of control.

Honestly, I don’t think cops receive the right training for this stuff. It’s easy to say that an unarmed counselor is a mistake, but I’m willing to bet that they have a better chance of de-escalating the situation.

Thats my opinion too.

Less chance of violence if a 'counselor' is sent, (someone who is a trained psychologist), I believe many of these domestic calls escalate because someone fears being arrested and going to jail...if you take that off the table, better odds of it being resolved peacefully.

Same thing with 'drug crime', police are the LAST people that should be responding to these calls!

Name the situations we expect the police to confront and control, please.

Including the potential behavior of the people we want them to deal with.

Next we talk about teachers.

Generally speaking it is usually a woman that has been forced to call the cops on her out of control enraged husband or boyfriend. He is usually drunk or high and threatening to beat someone or even kill someone or himself. Tensions are high and the chance for violence is also high. There is always a possibility for weapons to be involved.

I say call the Police to take control of the situation and the counselors are for later when emotions have settled and those involved have sobered up.

unarmed counselor still needs to have the police to carry out the arrest if there is evidence of domestic abuse (i.e. black eye, broken furniture) at the dwelling

And if they can't de-escalate the situation, they have a better chance of winding up dead.

I thought we were closing our schools right and left because there was a chance, however slight, that students might wind up dead from Covid-19. But we are OK with sending less-formidable "social counselors" into potentially far more dangerous situations?

We’re also apparently trying to shut down mail in voting because 0.0025% of mail in votes were possibly fraudulent in 2016 and 2018 elections. Doesn’t mean I agree with either.
