In terms of the Balkans they have hated going back centuries and were instrumental in starting WW1 which inadvertently led to WW2.
A few morons on the streets of Portland does not mean the US is going to start a civil war or mass genocide and ethnic cleansing which was what happened in the former Yugoslavia back in the 1990's.
The Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes known as Yugoslavia became a country after WW1 and was only ever kept together by Marshall Tito and the Communist state, as soon as communism collapsed in the early 1990's all hell broke out.
The Balkans regions problems like those of parts of the Middle East go back to the Ottoman Empire which was defeated along with the Germans during WW1 and this area has always been a crossing point of religions and ethnic groups.
Other areas left by the defeat of the Ottoman Empire included Palestine and Transjordan, both of which had been conceded by the Ottoman Empire and which the British policed under a League of Nations mandate.
Whilst Syria and Lebanon became a French protectorate under a League of Nations mandate.
The League of Nations being the equivalent of the UN today and a mandate being the equivalent of a peace keeping force.
The US has a very different history to Yugoslavia, the Ottoman Empire and totalitarian communism, and Yugoslavia and the US are not really comparable.

With people pushing for socialism I am not so sure. That is what we will have if Biden is elected even if he doesn't want it. The people around him do and will control him.

Ehm......that is happening to our country? She is talking about the era in Yugoslavia when they transitioned away from communism and opted for democracy and free market capitalism.

The fear mongering does not work look at 2016. All Hillary did was try to scare people away from voting for Trump. She had no plan. Now Trump is doing exactly what Hillary did and trying to scare people away from voting for Biden. He will fail at it. 2016 was MAGA. 2020 is Biden is a demented socialist.
My son was over there when this was happening, he was in the Army. He said what made it worse was they didn't know who the enemy was.
I pray this never happens here but one never knows what tomorrow will bring.
It was a tragic conflict, and the genocide was disgusting.
The singer James Blunt served in the Balkans with the British Army and has spoken about it in the past.
Blunt used to talk about his experiences with the late Carrie Fisher, who was a good friend of his.
Not a big fan of Blunt's music however the British including General Mike Jackson and Blunt a Captain in a Blues and Royals Cavalry unit, refused an order by American General Wesley Clark who was Nato Supreme Commander Europe, to intervene against Russian forces who were in possession of an airfield. Clark wanted British forces to seize the airfield, to which Jackson stated "I'm not going to have my soldiers be responsible for starting World War III", in what became known as the 'Incident at Pristina airport'.
When Wesley insisted that action be taken Jackson told him that did not believe it was worth the risk of a military confrontation with the Russians, instead insisting instead that British troops encircle the airfield. The stand-off lasted two weeks. Russian forces continued to occupy the airport, until eventually an agreement was secured for them to be integrated into peace-keeping duties, while remaining outside of NATO command.
Jackson and Blunt were both ready to resign and face Court Martial rather than follow General Clarke's order in relation to the airfield.
Jackson went on to become Chief of the General Staff, which is Head of the British Army.
