Meant to share this earlier. The author Edward Luce has done interviews talking about hown normally the world has in the past looked to America in a crisis, and has been horrified at the way we were unable even to manage our own problems, much less help others. And the FT felt this was such a pertinent article that they made it available for free - I think there would normally be a paywall.

Inside Trump’s coronavirus meltdown
What went wrong in the president’s first real crisis

By Edward Luce

American leadership in any disaster, whether a tsunami or an Ebola outbreak, has been a truism for decades. The US is renowned for helping others in an emergency... Again and again, the story that emerged is of a president who ignored increasingly urgent intelligence warnings from January, dismisses anyone who claims to know more than him and trusts no one outside a tiny coterie, led by his daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner – the property developer who Trump has empowered to sideline the best-funded disaster response bureaucracy in the world...

“America is first in the world in deaths, first in the world in infections and we stand out as an emblem of global incompetence. The damage to America’s influence and reputation will be very hard to undo.”

you can find anything you want on the internet. Undoubtedly, the same Euro/Canada leaders that snickered at Trump 8 months ago are still snickering now. And those same leaders would gladly accept our dollars as they always have. Give them enough dollars, and they would kneel to our National Anthem too.

It's also noted it took you 2.5 months to find the article.

I'm not sure I understand you. Are you saying that other countries are eager for our money, but we're so pure that we're above that? That's a strange statement these days when we have a president who is totally transactional and sees everything in terms of profit.

And, no, it didn't take me two months to "find" the article. It took me two months to get around to sharing it. But what difference does it make? If the article were even two years old, what does that matter, if it's still potentially interesting? There are things that take me months to get around to reading, but are still worthwhile.

I also notice that you only took four minutes to post a reply, which makes me wonder if you even bothered to read the article.

Yes will be able to find some that say a bad job others that say a good job.
We do know with our people. You were not going to completely lock down the country or stop the spread. Best can hope for is manage the spread. Just keep people clam and work on getting medical supplies needed.

And we do know Trumps first step was limiting travel from China like new zeland did. And the first step from the head Lib was to actually encourage people to go out more like in Chinatown.

Actions speak louder than words. And Libs also had the same info on the virus as Trump. And we see by the Libs first action how they would have handled.

We also know whatever Trump did they would say it was wrong. Like Libs said thousands would die since we did not have enough ventilators for even NYC. Would be true with a normal politician. But with a businessman no hospital ever actually used all they had in the US.

And of course it was Libs that fought Trump a year ago to keep factories and jobs in China that made 90% of our medical supplies.

And of course we see the actions of lib states that because of their leadership have twice the virus death rate.
We could go on but but to look at the facts instead of just guessing what would have happened because of political feelings.

I know of no reputable medical expert - anyone not beholden to Trump - who thinks that Trump is doing a good job with the pandemic. And, no, Democrats did not have the same information as early as Trump did. That's one of the perks of being President - more information, early on.

Do you have a list of people that think he did a good job other than his supporters, how do you paint worst response in the world as a good job. Yes he stopped flights from China, easy response but planes coming from europe that were primarily responsible for the virus spread went on for 6 more weeks.

So what's the good part.

This is so true. I feel exactly the same about it.

We have lost the pride of place our nation once held in the world. Our nation has become an international disgrace under Trump and it is hard to see how we can recover our reputation from it.

Nice slogan. Now how about participating in a discussing instead of chanting like some weird cult member.

Theres no way you can look at any of this and think he has done a good job on this. The first real test of his leadership, and he failed massively.
