And for all we know, she might have been at that ceremony with her Father.

Note that these statues were in Baltimore. Maryland did not secede. Lee and Jackson were Virginians. Their only connection to Baltimore might have been if a Maryland Confederate regiment was in their army.

Oh, my goodness...You are new here so you don't know that you will never get anywhere on this forum being rational or posting a logic-based argument.

But you are on to something: The KKK, Neo-Nazis, Militia bozos, white nationalists, Tiki-Torch marchers, and Fascist-wanabes are all Trumpist Republicans. The GOP gave us the Great Depression, the Great Recession, Enron and countless other financial and corporate scandals, Watergate, Iran-Contra, the fake WMDs and war in Iraq, funding the mujahideen, prolonged war in Afghanistan, Nixon, Spiro Agnew, Reagan, Dan Quayle, "W", Dick Cheney, Trump and Pence, and the unnecessarily high Covid19 deathtoll. That's just a short list.

So what? Do you see Pelosi sticking up for the neo-Conferderates today, or at any time in her political career?

I swear, ya'll are getting pretty desperate if you're trying to push this flimsy deflection ploy.

Regarding the opinion piece published in the Baltimore Sun (of 2017), the writer asks the question:

"What "sacred institutions" was Mayor D'Alesandro talking about "preserving" just over 69 years ago?" but he makes no effort to answer his own question and really doesn't seem to take a strong stand.

The post-war statues date to 1948 and the beginnings of the Cold War.

Later on he writes:

"Here is food for thought and a reminder: There is a statue dedicated to Mayor "Big Tommy" D'Alesandro in downtown Baltimore and, of course, there's that bridge that spans the Chesapeake Bay, the William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge. Should we consider doing something about those monuments? I suggest absolutely not."

Now, an earlier poster made a reference to controversy related to Trump's "grandfather". The actual controversy revolves around Trump's father, Fred Trump, and his arrest at a KKK-involved riot during the 1927 Memorial Day parade in Queens, NY. The KKK had been refused permission to march in the parade but showed up and did so anyway. Fred Trump was arrested along with a number of KKK members. This happened when Fred Trump was 21 years old and almost a decade before he met his future wife and nearly 20 years before Donald was born. Somehow, Fred managed to slink away without charges in 1927 but subsequent actions and civil rights violations in his real estate management business makes people wonder about his motivation in 1927. As far as I know, there is no statue of Fred Trump anywhere.

Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. She’s a fan of her daddy and the confederacy. But she’s gotta play politics. Are you suggesting she hates her daddy?

Call me when Pelosi cancels the memory of her father.

"I think it is important for The Baltimore Sun to remind its readers on how it reported the official dedication of the Lee/Jackson Monument on May 2, 1948. A crowd of 3,000 came to the Wyman Park dedication to lots of pomp and fanfare. I believe what was said then must be taken into historical context. The dedication words were spoken from the heart by two of Maryland's most revered politicians during the height of Jim Crow here in Charm City and six years before the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling.

Here is what Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., then mayor of Baltimore, and father of House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi said at the dedication, accepting the statue as the official representative of Baltimore:

"World Wars I and II found the North and South fighting for a common cause, and the generalship and military science displayed by these two great men in the War between the States lived on and were applied in the military plans of our nation in Europe and the Pacific areas.

"Today with our nation beset by subversive groups and propaganda which seeks to destroy our national unity, we can look for inspiration to the lives of Lee and Jackson to remind us to be resolute and determined in preserving our sacred institutions...."
Yup, she is a demagogue and a hypocrite. But what do you expect of a politician from the party of slavery, the KKK and Black Codes.

Funny thing is many of the ignorant kids of today have no clue about the evil history of the Democrat party, and the leftist media does it's best to pretend it didn't exist.

Frankly, I am not for tearing down or destroying our history (good nor bad). But if the Democrats are all for destroying statues and removing former racist Speaker of the Houses portraits (all Democrats), why have none of them (at least as of today) called for the renaming of their party, due to it's ugly and evil history?

I think you are missing the point.

It is not moderates or conservatives running around wanting to tear down artwork/statues of confederate soldiers or anyone who owned slaves back in the day. Or removing portraits of politicians who supported slavery (all Democrats).
They also are not demanding sports teams change their names (i.e. Redskins) or renaming military bases, street names, etc.
Instead it is the leftists, mostly representative of modern day Democrats.
On that we can both agree, correct?
So if they were going to be consistent and intellectually honest, shouldn't they demand the renaming of their own party?

I personally don't care, as I use to vote for both parties, and felt there were both good and bad in both. However this insane woke PC nonsense has Democrats supporting the criminals destroying the aforementioned. Yet their own party has most if not all the responsibility for the dehumanizing treatment of black people.
Thus they should want to re-brand themselves, as that is one of their hallmarks anyway.

Also, I would note that a decent amount of the communists/anarchists on the left would be all too happy to rename the party, and have already made inroads to do so.

For example, Sanders runs as a Democrat socialist for president, and many of the people who supported him in 2016 then became disenchanted with Democrats when the DNC and Hillary camp undermined him.
So they started their own party, the so called "Justice Democrats".
They are hard core leftists who believe in communism, nazism, etc., and have about a half dozen representatives in Congress, namely (if you can even pronounce their names) Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ro Khanna, Raul Grijalva and Pramila Jayapal.

They do not sound like your grandparents or even your parents Democrats.
Whoever is voting these kooks into office either don't know how radical they are, or are anti-American insurgents themselves.
