"If you usually get the shot at the office but you're working from home, for example, you'll need a new plan, says Lori Uscher-Pines, a senior policy researcher with the Rand Corp. "And if you usually drop in to the pharmacy or the supermarket for your shot while you're out and about anyway, you'll need a new plan this year if, these days, you're just not 'out and about.' "
But do make a plan."No year is a good year to get the flu, but this year — with COVID-19 also raging — it's especially bad," says Mark Thompson, an epidemiologist in the Influenza Division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"People who can avoid the flu will help reduce the burden on a U.S. health care system already overwhelmed by COVID-19," Thompson says.
" ... patients who received a recent influenza vaccine experienced on average 8% lower odds of needing intensive care treatment (95% CIs [0.86, 0.99]), 18% lower odds of requiring invasive respiratory support (0.74, 0.88) and 17% lower odds of death (0.75, 0.89)."
How necessary is the flu shot if you're quarantining?
Coronavirus mitigation steps will reduce your risk of getting flu, too. Australia is seeing that now. However, unless you plan to be a hermit your risk of getting flu will not be zero. Take the vaccine.
How necessary is the flu shot if you're quarantining?
Nothing compels anyone to self quarantine in the US, including those who test positive. ( I am aware that Louisville has a handful of anecdotal incidents)
The recommended quarantine for a positive test result or close association with someone with symptoms or who has tested positive is 10-14 days.
The seasonal flu season in the US runs from Oct- May with peak season, December- February.
Who is self quarantining for 6 months?
Imagine being simultaneously infected with both the seasonal flu and Covid would put a serious strain on someone.
The seasonal flu virus mutates year to year and within year and sometimes by geography.
The annual flu shot is not a vaccination and may miss the most prevalent strain. There are at least two formulations of the shot within any given flu season.
The effectiveness of the shot diminishes with the age of the inoculated.
It is not possible for the flu shot to infect the inoculated because the injection does not contains live virus. Some are infected before getting the shot and, as previously stated, the shot may not target the most prevalent virus in any given season.

The "flu shot" is a vaccination. You have said it is not a vaccine in several posts. I am curious about where you have come up with this peculiar idea.
If the mask wearing and social distancing cuts down on transmission of COVID, it won't do the same for the FLU?
I have read that the Pharms have increased the manufacture of flu vaccines this year in anticipation of an increased uptake. Not surprising. Follow the $$$. I have worked in Corporate Finance of a Fortune 500 Pharm. Know how they operate.
There will be a bigger flu campaign this year. Get your Flu Shot. Save a hospital bed for a Covid patient.
