Why would the rich move to another locked down state? Rent someone that isn't locked down, work remote and if it's Florida etc, pay no income tax and it pays for the rent!
Because not everything is 100% remote.
1) Many are 1 or 2 days in the city. From exburbia NYC is a haul but not awful if you are doing it 1x or 2x a week.
2) You better be sure your NYC job is 100% remote. FOREVER.
From North Jersey, it is not a fun commute but it is doable, especially if its only a few times a week.
And for the people Ive seen, it is NOT the rich. It is all the 75K to 300K people. The real elite are in the Hamptons... etc. Here locally it seems mostly Brooklynites.
They surely will. They will vote in more people like Cuomo, de Baliso, Durkan, Wheeler, Garcetti etc...
The sickness on the left is such, that when they flee the horrible cities they screwed up, they don't realize it's their fatally flawed ideology that's at fault. They think it was just the mayor or governor's fault for not properly implementing their ideology.
We know socialism/Marxism doesn't work, history has shown us this over and over again, at the cost of millions of lives. But the left keeps trying it over and over again. The left fail to understand that socialism, Marxism, etc... is doomed to fail. They keep fooling themselves into thinking they can make Marxism work... they just need different people to do it right the next time, rinse repeat.
What in the world makes you think NYC is Marxist??????? Do you even know what is based there? I don't think you understand anything about NYC.

I know two people who returned to SC during this and they were both living in Brooklyn. I've also heard from someone with family in real estate in NY that the outer reaches of possible NYC commutes are where they see a large influx of buyers.
One of my friends had a Dad who commuted Philly top NYC- he got on a train Monday, worked in the dining car, got off and headed to the office, pulled four tens and headed home on Thursday nights. Supposedly he never committed to staying at that job but was there a decade. His NYC apartment was amounted to a large hotel room with a kitchenette.
One thing to think about is that if you flush out enough young New Yorkers, Bostonians, and Angelenos they are probably moving to states like Pa, NC, or Arizona where they could be tipping swing states.
It’s not just Covid. It’s the riots, the no-bail policies, releasing prison inmates early, etc. I moved out 5years ago, but one native resident friend who still lives there says she’s been a little scared lately. This is a tough Latina from Queens saying “scared”, so I imagine it must have gotten fairly bad.

Why would someone fleeing democrats vote democrat? New York etc are losing their americans.
Of course no one's bothered to check with movers around the country and/or the world about how many are wanting to move to NY. NYC has, does, and always will attract many people wishing to live there.
I just checked, not with a mover per se, but with U-Haul. If the inflow and outflow were generally similar, you'd expect to see a similar one-way rental charge. So I took a look at a one-way move from Manhattan to Cary, NC, and a one-way move from Cary to Manhattan. (I chose Cary because it's a popular spot for northeasterners to move to, if they don't want to go to Florida.)
Here's the one-way charge for a 15-foot truck (the type that a single person with a one-bedroom apartment is most likely to use) from Cary to Manhattan on Saturday, August 15th: $397.
Now, if the inflows and outflows were roughly the same, you'd expect to see the rate from Cary to Manhattan to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $400, right? Well, guess what? It's not. In fact, it's $2,069 -- over FIVE TIMES as expensive. This tells me that a whole lot more people want to move from New York to North Carolina than the other way around.

I wouldn't be too happy if I plunked down millions for an apartment in Manhattan a year or two ago right now!
