It’s theft.

All states require a court order to legally evict a tenant. That however does not prevent some owners from turning off utilities, changing locks, removing doors , etc.

Air traffic Controllers continue to be paid even though working fewer hours.

Of course they are. They are union members.

It has not been business as usual.

Ski resorts shut down. Other than elementary school- aged children, all schools went to virtual learning.

Businesses were strongly encouraged to permit their employees to work from home, where possible and they did. 30%% of the workforce had been doing so before Covid. Public transportation was cut.

People were encouraged to wear masks and social distance and they did.

Occupancy at restaurants and bars Was limited.

And you blame Democrats? Really?
Their plan was dead on arrival and they knew it !!! They put in repealing tax cuts and knew Trump would never sign that !!! They weren't looking for agreement, they were looking for capitulation and Trump to join the democrat party !!! Along with that they wanted to fund all their non Covid forever wish list !!!
You have been duped again by Pelosi and Schumer !!!

Something seriously wrong with a society that ONLY finds building luxury housing profitable enough. Many times only bought as an investment and tax write off and sits empty And tears down the older marginal stuff that the poor tend to live in. You want worker bees, you gotta house them too. Or give them space to put up their own cobbled tar paper shacks like they do in many South American countries.

If it's happening in "some areas" then it would seem to be a local issue and not a national one.

For example, NIMBY's don't want low income housing around them reducing their property prices etc. etc.

If you have a housing problem in your area then ask yourself what your LOCAL population and government are doing about it.

Just like the old saying about no atheists in a foxhole.....try to drop affordable housing into some of the most progressive parts of San Fran and you'll suddenly see theory and practice diverge quickly.

There are jobs out there. But people decided to take the extra $600 unemployment benefit because they say they make more money than their regular job. which may be true.

People don't want to work hard - these who are moaning and groaning, but perhaps they will be forced to when the freebies run out.

Yep,and now Sweden has almost no new cases or deaths. 80% of deaths were in Sweden's poorly run nursing home system. Sweden's death rate is lower than where I live in the US, but without all the bull**** mandated lockdowns. If you are old or obese by all known facts stay home and keep safe, otherwise mandating people lock themselves in has proven to not do much good. We need the virus to spread like in Sweden where there are now almost no new cases

This eviction fallout is going to have a long term ripple effect. It's not just that they'll be evicted but that will show the next time they try to rent an apartment, their credit scores will also be impacted which will hurt them trying to get loans, cars, mortgages, etc.

I feel for the people who lost jobs and couldn't get unemployment in time. But there shouldn't be a single person in NJ who has missed rent. They were paying out $1,340 every week in unemployment, that's like making $90k a year before taxes.

Too many people thought they could just get away with not paying rent. People on this board said they've gone to collect rent from tenants who say they can't pay but have a new car in the driveway.

As a landlord myself I'd never rent to someone with an eviction. So like most people they're being a penny wise and dollar foolish as they're going to have a very hard time finding a nice place to live moving forward.
