We are number one in total deaths and total infections but yes those 4 countries have a higher rate of deaths. But while their new cases are running less than a thousand we have been close to 60,000 for weeks, that is why we are banned from traveling to most of the countries in the world.

Sweden? Who wants to be like Sweden? I'll take Taiwan and even our own Hawaii over Sweden's response to Covid.

Yes. Look to Island nations and states for the ease at which they stopped Covid. New Zealand, too!

Genius!

Why didn't everyone just think to make their states and countries islands where air travel could be cut off with the flip of a switch!?!

Well yeah, we’re a huge country so obviously raw numbers will be higher. Not adjusting for population is a totally dishonest way to count deaths.

Well China and India have 4 times our population and a fraction of the mortality rate, really not much of a victory that we are ahead of 4 countries with our health care system.

The large issue right now is the continuing high infection rate that is keeping us shut down and we have been at or near the top for several weeks.

China lies. They may well have had more deaths in Wuhan than we have in the whole country. There are reports of 50,000 to 100,000 coffins hastily shipped to Wuhan during the peak.

As for India, the virus is just now getting there. Its spreading in Latin America, Africa and South Asia now.

It's really hard to draw conclusions because some countries don't count Covid-19 deaths unless the individual died in a hospital.

France has basically the same death rate as the US. It got there quicker while we had a slower increase. Ireland was tracking with the US before levelling off earlier. At 365 per million they are still relatively high. Germany did well. They are at 112 per million.

Is there a lesson here?
Yes, quarantine every traveler for two weeks. As of a few weeks ago, they had cases. However, those cases were travelers who are in quarantine. That is not quite the same as no new cases. Their last cases were from travelers who were allowed to leave quarantine early.

That’s why the U.S. Health and Human Services secretary is coming here to learn the details rather than going to Sweden.
I had no clue! Thank you for the heads-up, that’s interesting.

Take those numbers out (deaths in nursing homes in the US are upwards of 50% of all deaths) and the average drops.
Nursing home deaths were not particular just to the US or NY, they were world wide and nation wide.
