Murder is up 139% from last year to this year.

Murder isn't a violent crime to some posters.

Opinions are not facts.

Not likely there is any connection between rioters/ looters and pension recipients.

The city and state pensions have been under funded since their inception. The wheels began to seriously fall off state pensions nearly 30 years ago. Funding of the city’s pensions went seriously sideways about 50 years ago. This is common knowledge in the city and state.

The state constitution makes clear public employees are due the benefits in place on their date of hire. Even if the constitution were amended it would not be enforceable for employment contracts in place before the amendment. Illinois is one of 7 states with such protections.

There is not a darn thing aNy mayor, governor or legislature can do about it.

The former governor, a Republican, faced a primary challenger for his second term. The challenger claimed she alone could persuade public pension holders to agree to reduced benefits. The people laughed at her nativity.

I am 100% certain nobody laughed at her nativity.

When I heard the Diamond District got hit by looters, it reeked of organized crime, not the typical looter.

It appears there were at least three distinct groups, working different areas.

Most were the garden variety looters.

Then there were the one more interested in firing their weapons into the air, street signs and parked cars.

And then there was another group intent on killing. A private security guard was shot in the back.

It reeks of being an organized event and the looters may have been the distraction.

this looks like the "flash mobs" we had a few years back but on a more brazen, larger scale.

sad to see, knowing that it's happening in our country, even if in another city far away.
it feels as if the term "my fellow countrymen" doesn't apply to everyone living in this country anymore.

You must admit, they do prioritize the important things here. Ribbon cutting....how many people are on the beach....

Maybe our politicians should do what Gil Garcetti is telling the city to do, which is turn off the electricity and water of homes and businesses violating gathering regulations.

Of course that wouldn't apply to looters, only people on the beach or in church.
