Most of the cases are drug related. The actual number of murder cases dropped breaks down to 5 more than her predecessor. Aggravated discharge of firearm is 22 more than her predecessor.
The rioters/looters are City of Chicago Pensioners who just found out the city's pension fund's broke, and they are all going to get stiffed out of their pensions....or a big chunk of it at best.
Mayor Lightfoot is implementing "reforms" to save the fund from oblivion.
"Reform" = pensioners not getting what they promised. I'd riot & loot too if I were them.
Not likely there is any connection between rioters/ looters and pension recipients.
The city and state pensions have been under funded since their inception. The wheels began to seriously fall off state pensions nearly 30 years ago. Funding of the city’s pensions went seriously sideways about 50 years ago. This is common knowledge in the city and state.
The state constitution makes clear public employees are due the benefits in place on their date of hire. Even if the constitution were amended it would not be enforceable for employment contracts in place before the amendment. Illinois is one of 7 states with such protections.
There is not a darn thing aNy mayor, governor or legislature can do about it.
The former governor, a Republican, faced a primary challenger for his second term. The challenger claimed she alone could persuade public pension holders to agree to reduced benefits. The people laughed at her nativity.

this looks like the "flash mobs" we had a few years back but on a more brazen, larger scale.
sad to see, knowing that it's happening in our country, even if in another city far away.
it feels as if the term "my fellow countrymen" doesn't apply to everyone living in this country anymore.
But at least Lightfoot & Pritzker were on time to that ribbon cutting today!
Oh ... and Rush too.
You must admit, they do prioritize the important things here. Ribbon cutting....how many people are on the beach....
Maybe our politicians should do what Gil Garcetti is telling the city to do, which is turn off the electricity and water of homes and businesses violating gathering regulations.
Of course that wouldn't apply to looters, only people on the beach or in church.
