$16,000 a year is ridiculous. $2,500/child makes more sense. If people can't afford 4 children, why have 4 children?

2016: Trump campaigned on the intention to wave a wand and guarantee at least 6 weeks paid maternity leave for working all mothers.

2019: Congress approved a 12 week paid parental leave for all Federal employees, a benefit paid by tax payers, many of whom do not have any maternity/ paternity benefit.

2017- current: Ivanka Trump, with daddy’s blessing, has been working with Congress for paid parental leave for all and making childcare more affordable. It’s going no place, fast.

The propsals the Democrats are coming out with are crazy. Joe Biden wants to give $16,000 a year to families who have two children who make under a certain income level and now they want a 430 Billion "Coronavirus Child Care" act so parents who have more kids than they could afford get massive reduced or free daycare services.

I have to say while I will not be voting for President Trump, there is no way that I could support Democrats which in my opinion are Very, very anti-single, anti-dual income no kid and retirees who don't have school-aged children.

This isn't 'pro kid'. It's pandering, plain and simple.

Federal and state tax codes have historically favored families with minor children and socialized the cost burden.

In 2017, Congress approved doubling the child tax credit.

All else being equal, the property tax bill for a home with 4 school- aged children is the same as the bill for a home with no children.

All else being equal, a household with 4 qualified children will pay less income taxes than a household with 3, 2, 1 or 0 qualified children.

4 children = an annual $8000 child tax credit.

Then there’s the Earned Income Tax Credit, thing which, with enough qualified children and low income eliminates the entire tax burden and generate a refund in excess of taxes paid.

All else being equal a household with 4 children pays the same property tax as the household with 0 children.

The Federal, state and local governments have historically subsidized the choice to have children- the more the merrier, regardless if the bio parents have the financial means and/ or emotional maturity to support them.

It’s as bipartisan as it gets.

Why won't someone propose a low-cost solution?

Like, if you're not able to pay for childcare, perhaps you shouldn't have children at all? Too logical? I suppose so, this isn't Planet Vulcan.

Or how about people who do have kids let their parents / friends / other relatives care for them - like they did in the old days? Why is this not a viable solution to this pressing problem?
