so where are we going to all admit this overreaction to covid is completely absurd?

17 players test positive who didn't even have mild cold symptoms and we're shutting down the world for this? What are we all going to do when everything blows over and we realized we're enforcing masks on everybody for something that really has about a 0.01% death rate?

Take away people over 70 with multiple serious health problems and the real death rate is probably 0.0001%. I've got a better chance of winning the lottery
The important question is:
Are those players spreading Covid?

It is definitely not an absurd question.

So basically all of the people that they came into contact with had no idea that these players were exposing them to the virus.

“Around 30% of patients who tested positive for the new coronavirus were asymptomatic, but they still carried just as much of the virus as symptomatic patients—and for nearly as long—according to a new study that experts say provides the first scientific evidence of asymptomatic transmission of the pathogen.
...
On the other hand, symptomatic patients often stay home to recover from Covid-19, while asymptomatic patients who could be unaware they're carrying the virus may continue with their everyday routines, potentially infecting others, Gaglia said.”

I can't understand your confusion. It's pretty well known that the younger and healthier you are, the more likely you won't show symptoms - as in the Navy boat. This does not mean you aren't contagious. Put simply and rather bluntly, no one anywhere really cares if the ball players or athletes anywhere get sick - it's their extended family where the concern lies. This is not hard to understand.

It doesn't matter - at all - that they're ball players. If you test positive in ANY occupation right now - you are off work. That's OSHA. And the CDC. The excess deaths (CDC) support the "dead" numbers - and do NOT support that those folks would have died soon anyway.

YES - it's mostly old people that suffer - but about 60,000 deaths are UNDER age 75, and half of those are UNDER 65. I presume many of these ball players have parents? Grandparents? Spouses with in-laws? That most of the non-playing staff is not "young?" Don Mattingly is 59 - you think he wants it? His wife? Maybe his older brother?

Very - very - shortsighted thinking here if you think it's a Marlins player himself that anyone's worried about.

MOST people do not get very sick. MANY young people do not show symptoms. SOME folks with no symptoms are still contagious. And with those limitations - EVERY SINGLE DEATH could plausibly be traced to a young person with no symptoms. Grow up. Baseball (or any "entertainment" - which pro sports is) is simply not worth it.

"Is ____ spreading the _____?"
Do you ponder this every cold/flu season?

vast vast majority of those are people over 70 with serious health problems. Those people aren't dying of covid, they're just dying cause they're old people with health problems. If it wasn't covid now, maybe it's a flu next month or something else the month after that
All the pain and suffering with only 20% of the population infected and in your wisdom you think this is to be dismissed. Sure lets open up bars and sports arenas, maybe we can get it to 1 million deaths by the end of this year.

Other countries did the hard work of shutting down and now they are moving on while some are still comparing this to a bad flu season.

Viral load. Look it up. Catching the disease early is part of a healthy recovery.

0.01% death rate?

Nope. No data anywhere agrees with you. It's about 0.65%, latest guess from the CDC.

I agree that taking away the "old" lowers it to something like 0.1% - which is about 1 in a 1000 - and it gets even lower if you're younger. But since 30,000 people are dead under the age of 65 - I guess 30,000 OTHER people must have won the lotto, hm? I mean, lots more people play the lotto than catch COVID, that's a fact - so even MORE than 30K must have won the lotto...and yet, power ball goes weeks and weeks with no winner...hmmm...

The virus is contagious. Asymptomatic people can pass it to five other people who could all suffer death from it. Do you know what contagious means?

Since you know the real death numbers please let us know. Apparently you know more than the cdc and the entire medical community put together.

The Virus over reaction is ridiculous. If you are old and/or sick take the necessary precautions. All others should live normally. No lock downs. No masks. No changes.
