Wow, he had so much fat in the budget that he easily found a way to lay off 22,000 employees.

Never understood why NYC needs a very high city income tax, medium-level property taxes and very high regressive sales taxes for just the city when there are states like Wyoming and Alaska pretty much get by wonderfully on property and corporate severance taxes.

Hopefully, there are huge juicy payroll cuts in all major cities and states coming up soon.

I personally hope that these big cities and liberal states don't get a bailout. Other then first-reponders most of them are just sitting in offices doing tasks that do nothing to improve their cities.

sounds like it's more than "may"...

"Mayor Bill de Blasio is instructing the city’s agencies to lay off 22,000 public workers on October 1, unless the city can find another source of funding at the eleventh hour."

Keep in mind that NYC's income tax was supposed to be temporary to get the city through a rough time several decades ago. But the fact that it exists today shows that there is no such thing as a temporary tax when it comes to the left.

Isn't New York sitting on like a couple trillion in natural gas?

I believe that New York State is, specifically the Southern Tier. I don't think that it's under New York City, though I could be wrong about that.

Are the gas companies allowed to drill for it or does the state tie their hands to the point where it isn't profitable?

Cuomo won’t allow fracking. You could never drill in NYC even if there were gas there. No space. Except maybe under Central Park, and I should hop NO one would be okay with that.
