Good point. You’d probably also have to couple it to a flat tax, as our current progressive marginal system would fail to fund the government at its current size (it already fails to do so). Again, I’m not advocating for this income cap, but were one to implement this with any hope for achieving its aims, you’d have to go very, very holistic and institute nearly wholesale change in almost every way we operate.

Your plan wouldn’t do squat to get us out of debt or solve the made up problem of income inequality. What it would do is encourage people to either hide their income or start bartering for goods and services rather than paying USD for them.

Sure it does... Thats TRILLIONS of dollars being redirected to the debt. Instead of the rich hoarding it. Jeesh,. That income the "Hidden rich" will be confiscated. Again. No one needs MILLIONS of dollars. No one. Unless there are exception of curing fatal illnesses. But at least thats merit-based. Not cronysim

And eventually we all benefit and reap the rewards. Not the select few which is what has happened over the last 30 years (which has FAILED us miserably as the RESULTS show)

Not really. Most wealthy folk pay mortgages too, since current wisdom is that you make more in investments than you pay in interest.

I get it...prevent anyone from making over 500k, so that everything else beyond that goes to the government to bulk up slush funds and stock up on welfare programs! Good idea!!

Let's have the blue states try it out first and we'll see how it goes.

No, Dorian. In your plan, all the extra money these businessmen would earn over 500K would go to the government?

In about a week and a half, the businessmen would no longer be earning over 500K. They'd find a way, not to earn a penny more.

My guess is, their employers would "pay" them in other ways, like access to luxury hotels and properties, much greater vacation time, etc.

You will NOT get the people to work just as hard as always, but you'll be taking their money over a certain amount, thank you very much.

Humans don't work like that.
