I posted this in another thread, but I'll copy it here:

I actually have a history with the BMCs, so I'm not completely ignorant on the topic. But that was in another lifetime, and looking into it further I see things have changed. There are now NDCs, which do handle both mail and parcels, so consider me schooled.

Nevertheless, I'm still highly skeptical of the statement. A letter sorting machine is maybe 50' long judging from the pictures I've seen, and a parcel sorting machine is the size of a football field, and has three stories of mechanization to handle it's input and output. You absolutely cannot replace a letter sorting machine with a parcel sorting machine. It's impossible.

And given the cost and complexity of these machines, keeping the unused ones around for parts seems obvious....doesnt it? Instead...they were destroyed. And given the resulting mail delays its pretty obvious this was-at a minimum-done incompetently. Like most things in this administration.

And it's probably just sheer coincidence this incompetence occurred exactly at the same time as Trump admitting he wanted to slow down sorting of ballots.

Except he never actually said that, did he?

There must be a 100 different news sources reporting it. I suppose they're all fake news, huh?

Trump, Aug. 13: They want $3.5 billion for something that will turn out to be fraudulent, that’s election money basically. They want $3.5 trillion — billion dollars for the mail-in votes, OK, universal mail-in ballots, $3.5 trillion. They want $25 billion, billion, for the Post Office. Now they need that money in order to have the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots. Now, in the meantime, they aren’t getting there. By the way, those are just two items. But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting because they’re not equipped to have it.

DeJoy should go to jail for sabotaging our postal system.

Dejoy should put the machines he had removed from service back in service ASAP.

The stupidity of Trump knows no end. Many of Trump supporters are seniors who will vote via mail-in ballots.

Trump is a wannabe dictator just like his buddy Putin. Electing Trump will be the same as putting Putin in the White House.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." Don't get fooled again. Vote for Joe.

The right thing would be to sell off the USPS to the highest bidder. I can't remember the last time I used the Post Office. No need for it today. No need to keep bleeding money. Let an actual company own and run it.

You realize you're going to pay for it either way, right? All of your bills and government communications go through the US Mail. If you outsource it to a private party then those higher costs become operating expenses that ultimately get passed on to you. Only now you're also going to be paying for sky-high executive salaries, shiny office buildings, stockholder dividends for upwards of 60% overhead. You know, just like the health insurance industry. Only 40% of your health insurance premiums actually go to your healthcare. But sure, let's outsource to private industry because, what. Republicans want that?

Then how is it workers are complaining that these cutbacks will slow the mail down so bad that the USPS might not be able to deliver all the ballots in time?
