Tuesday voting is a remnant of the "blue laws," which prohibited most businesses from opening on Sunday and also restricted other activities. Most states have abolished "blue laws" but the US Supreme Court has ruled that they are still legal.
Voting should be from 8:00 AM Saturday straight through to 5:00 PM Sunday. That accommodates people who observe their "day of rest" on either Saturday or Sunday. Vote counting would commence on Monday.

There is no "simple" solution, there are always those who will complain. The current issue has nothing to do with the day being on a Tuesday but on Covid. Which exists no matter what day you hold it on. There are also those who would then complain that bus routes are often much more limited on the weekend, especially Sunday, which could prevent the poor from going to vote. Personally if i can go shopping with a mask i can go vote with a mask. If someone is fearful to do so they can personally request an absentee ballot. A system which has been used for decades. I feel its way to close to the Election to try to implement such a major change without Chaos ensuing and that is something we cannot afford as a Country. Heck each election has enough Chaos as boards of Elections around the Nation can't seem to accurately run our current systems.
