Wouldn't it be better to require elected officials to be in there need their peak prime? Set a upper limit of age 60 or so when they run for office.
60 is ridiculously low.

From what I've seen, we've got a lot of trash in Congress in the 25-40 range.
And some senile old folks.

I'd put it more at the 80 range or term limits.

Some seniors are pretty darn sharp. I think an independent cognition test of some sort would be better.

Reasonable reply. I agree 60 is WAY too young. Actually that is prime time to be president. Ideally we should look at candidates 45-65. I do agree that both Trump and Biden are definitely to old. We would be better off not to have our President be 80 in office. That being said I am
Not comfortable with them being too young either. I believe Teddy Roosevelt was the youngest at 42. No younger than that in my opinion.

Our founding fathers limited it at 35 but neglected to put an upper limit on being president. Either they never imagined an 80 year old wanting to be president or it was an oversight. No way the founders would approve of someone like Biden who is obviously in decline. Trump is more mentally fit than Biden by far but will he remain that way 4 more years? At his age anything can happen. 80 year olds should not be president.

Changing this and adding a top limit would likely require an amendment. Not an easy thing to do, considering our divided environment it’s likely impossible right now.

If 60 were to be set as an age limitation, it should be a minimum. Kids under 60 with a lick of sense are the exception, not the rule.

Not only am I the exception then, I feel so much younger being reclassified as a kid. Thanks!

On a more serious note though, I don't see any justification for having a minimum age of 60 as this could miss a lot of very qualified people who are somewhat younger than that and also misses the fact that having such skewed elderly representation tends to naturally skew policies in favor of the self interests of only older generations, while leaving the younger generations responsible for the negative consequences of policies that work against them or bankrupt their generations.

Your argument works both ways though. If an 80 year old with cognitive sharpness that is way above the normal bell curve (certainly possible), as that is typically dropping significantly at that point, then there does need to be better justification as to why an exceptional 34 year old who is wise beyond his or her years and has extraordinary life experience is automatically disqualified from holding office as President until they turn 35.

It is the selfish baby boomers. They never want to retire, but end up retiring in place. Unfortunately, I can't say the alternative generations are any better.

Term limits would accomplish the desired effect without being discriminatory.

Nope, if someone can legally vote they should be able to legally hold office. Let the voters decide if someone is too old or too young. I've seen some elected officials at both ends of the spectrum who were excellent and others who were terrible.

Setting a number is arbitrary

It would make more sense to issue cognitive tests
