That's what struck me from the Paul Krugman column: Why this fixation on phantom menaces?

Trump whips up frenzied fixations on lesser problems like illegal immigrant criminals (less than with nativ-born Americans) or Hillary's supposed criminality (no indictment after three years), but then ignores more important problems like the coronavirus or Russia influencing our election.

QAnon is Trump's last, best chance
Beyond that, however, a lot of the focus on imaginary threats represents a defensive response from people who repeatedly demonstrated, even before the coronavirus hit, that they have no idea how to do policy, that is, to cope with real threats.

Like Kavanaugh's rape parties?
The Russia hoax?
The Ukrainian blackmail?
The Charlottesville conspiracy with the KKK?
The mask hoax?
The lockdown hoaxes (can't buy seeds, but governor can buy jewelry, Nancy can get her hair done but you can't)?
The virus doesn't affect people doing good protests hoax?

Krugman has totally lost his brain. He used to make some sense, albeit with a liberal slant. Now he's the 2nd worst writer out there after that Pittman from Miami.
