It’s one of the Asian community’s greatest frustrations. But no one wants to talk about anti Asian discrimination in the work place because that doesn’t indict the people that they wanna go after...namely blacks.

Glass ceilings usually refer to difficulties /obstacles of women (of all ethnicities) to advance in the workplace. The term with respect to Asian Americans is bamboo ceiling.

Respected? Not always the case.

Asians in America used to be the "yellow peril" who were "inscrutable, exotics" who were despised. Throw in some war experiences in the 20th century and we were considered the enemy, always under suspicion, or even "unassimilatable".

Now the model minority myth was constructed for a very different narrative - as a weapon to criticize other ethnic communities. At the same time it is also deeply damaging to Asian people and further perpetuates the idea that we do not experience racism. We are expected to aspire to the unattainable goal of whiteness, and we are ignored when we speak up about the very real racism that we endure.
