The cult of selfishness is killing America
By Paul Krugman

Were our leaders just stupid? Well, maybe. But there’s a deeper explanation of the profoundly self-destructive behavior of Trump and his allies: They were all members of America’s cult of selfishness.

You see, the modern U.S. right is committed to the proposition that greed is good, that we’re all better off when individuals engage in the untrammeled pursuit of self-interest. In their vision, unrestricted profit maximization by businesses and unregulated consumer choice is the recipe for a good society... What they call “freedom” is actually absence of responsibility.

From July 2019 to July 2020, real average hourly earnings increased 3.6 percent, seasonally adjusted.
The change in real average hourly earnings combined with a 1.5-percent increase in the average
workweek resulted in a 5.1-percent increase in real average weekly earnings over this period.

One one of the wealthy Israel-First, Neocon, Never-Trump crew, especially one from the NYT, starts lecturing Americans about "selfishness" then be ready to be fed communist propaganda.

Americans are tired of being lectured from both sides of the isle by what is mostly the same group that cares about their insular interests only, and doesn't care about those of the citizens of the United States.

Whatever your politics are, refuse to be dictated to by "journalists" or "experts" that are not in your political demographic. They do not have your interests at heart and are almost always going to be politically corrupted and dominant. Be especially alarmed when they claim both sides of the isle and an vastly disproportionate amount of the bylines.

So...the proposition that greed is good? What about all the greedy fools that think they have the right to seize the property of those that earned it? To take what doesn't belong to them? That they somehow have the right to something that they did nothing to earn? That think they are entitled to something simply for being born? What about their greed?

Like those big tech and social media corporations, right?
