I think what's got into your craw is that all these Sport Venue's are onboard with BLM ISSUES!!
I say, "To Bad So Sad" because so many sport figures/teams/Sport Corporations are demanding "Social Justice"!
You're completely wrong about my view of sports. I supported Kaepernick's kneeling and drawing attention to our social injustice/racial injustice that has been in our society since forever.
Here's my view especially since the pandemic started. These glorified athletes, some making $40 million a season (Chiefs QB, for instance) are feeling sorry for themselves that they have to suffer with being in bubbles (NHL, NBA) or not being able to play in front of fans (MLB) or having to be tested frequently.
These are entertainers in the same manner as Tom Cruise and Bruce Springsteen. They create a diversion for those who want to watch. The results of their games (wins) mean nothing.
The real heroes in our country aren't athletes or actors, it's folks who are battling everyday with the pandemic trying to save lives of those afflicted, the real heroes are our police officers who risk their lives for us everyday trying to fight crime.
These highly paid (overpaid) athletes have become boring - kind of embarrassed I've given them so much time in my life watching them.
A silly giggly teenage girl who has been heavily sheltered all her life and has nothing to say about anything of consequence.
That’s what that poster is trying to say. He’s disappointed that she grew up and actually has strong opinions that he doesn’t agree with. Lol
Her "opinions", like yours in this thread, are based on a lie. The left loves listening to uninformed children which isn't surprising considering their juvenile thought process. Government please raise me because i'm a little child and need help.

There is no social injustice and there is no proof of any. Just anecdotes. Law enforcement goes after the law breakers and anyone who cares about the truth knows there is a crime problem in the black community.

I think it's way more possible that ratings are down due to:
1. Increased competition from the NBA and NHL playoffs.
2. This year's event is airing on ESPN 2 rather than ESPN due to the NBA playoffs being aired on ESPN instead.
3. Major stars, especially on the men's side, are not playing this year.
Exactly. Plus there are no fans in the stands, and the fans are what make the U.S. Open my favorite tournament. I'm watching anyway, though - I'm not an NBA fan, and the Flyers are out of the NHL playoffs, so I'll wait for the finals to tune in htere.

I really don't care about Naomi Osaka's political displays, or whatever. She, like every other athlete, is also a human being with opinions. If she wants to air them, she has that right. You have the right to ignore her. See how that works?

That's a good reason to watch this year's U.S. Open, too.

Hitting the line judge was an accident. Hitting the ball randomly was not. Djokovich is a professional and should know better.

So ... wait. You don't like Margaret Court because of her "post career antics", yet you're OK with Serena Williams' antics during her career? LMAO ... I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.

Are sportsfans who stop watching because they disagree w/ the social statements made by athletes part of what is called the "cancel culture"? If I recall, Trump said something disparaging this so-called cancel culture but regularly encourages his loyalist to do exactly that like the NFL, NBA, or even buying Goodyear Tires for instance.(https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ed/3451223001/)
I recall Tim Tebow made his own social statements before every game ----didn't get much criticism, did he? Seen as a hero/role model to many. I guess it all depends on what your statement is.
Seems to me that fighting for social justice is as good as promoting a religion that you follow.
Sorry, guess it needs explanation.
Women gain 25-35 lbs when pregnant and quit the tour for a number of months (yrs) and lose their fitness when they deliver. Many decide to stay at home and care for the infant. These months add up. Being away from the sport for awhile hurts their return.
Men- well, they just donate their sperm to produce the baby - many can play the following day after conception and miss no time on the court. Maybe they show up for the delivery of the baby.
If you have watched any of her prior interviews, you would know what I am talking about.
Why not just answer the question?
I’ve seen quite a few of her interviews. She has always struck me as a thoughtful, sincere young woman.
Let me ask you: how do you suppose it was for her, growing up in an homogeneous society as one finds in Japan?

It does seems that way.
Something that I think a lot of people will never understand about being biracial: to the larger culture, doesn’t matter where you live or grow up, if you look black, you are black.
Doesn’t matter how sheltered her upbringing may have been, nothing could have insulated her from that reality.
In any event, she’s gotten herself to the final.
I’ll be watching.
If its going to be about politics why would I go there or watch it? I can play above that level.
