Amid the overt and in-your-face political displays (BLM virtue signalling) by Naomi Osaka, the TV ratings for the US Open Tennis Tournament are down 46% from last year, over the first eight days.

US Open Tennis Ratings Down Amid Naomi Osaka Political Displays

US Open tennis ratings are down amid Naomi Osaka’s much-discussed political displays regarding police violence. Over the first eight days of US Open coverage on ESPN, ratings are down 46 percent. Some analysts are pointing to a scheduling overlap with NBA games, as well as a lack of big names in this year’s tournament, as the main culprits for the ratings decline. Fans, meanwhile, are citing a different cause.

The ratings decline comes at an unfortunate time for Osaka, who has been attempting to use her platform to promote social awareness regarding police shooting victims. Over the past week, Osaka has worn masks with the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, Ahmaud Arbery and Trayvon Martin.
While the article above makes mention of "police violence," of course the real problem here is the ongoing terror campaign being waged against our country in Democrat controlled major cities, led by self-described Marxist groups Antifa and BLM, and enabled by Democrat mayors and governors.

Meanwhile, police leaders accross the country have been resigning their positions as the Democrats have voted to defund the police in numerous places and have taken numerous other measures to undermine the ability of the police to do their jobs.

The Democrat party is siding with the Marxist terror groups, who have literally been engaging in a campaign of violence and mayhem that exceeds anything our country has seen since the civil war.

People watch sports for relaxation and entertainment. I wouldn't be surprised if a number of leftist fans are disgusted as well. If you want politics, there are plenty of other venues to get that.

I don't know, I guess it's possible that less people are watching this year because of Osaka even though she only plays every other day. I think it's way more possible that ratings are down due to:

1. Increased competition from the NBA and NHL playoffs.
2. This year's event is airing on ESPN 2 rather than ESPN due to the NBA playoffs being aired on ESPN instead.
3. Major stars, especially on the men's side, are not playing this year.

Not.
Their ratings are down because Roger and Rafa chose not to travel to the U.S.

This all makes sense.

2020 is a very different year, for many reasons. Another possible point is that I know a lot of people have dropped tv altogether, to lessen expenses. The only reason my husband and I had cable was to watch live sports, so we cancelled it in March when all the leagues stopped, and we haven't taken it up again. We bought streaming for the NHL playoffs, and quickly lost interest - it's not the same. We are tennis fans, and Canada even had three men win into the 16s, but we just watched highlights on our news apps.

I agree.

Her innocence and free spirit last year was attractive for many. Someone got to her. I don't think this is who she is.

So most of you guys believe that nobody is offended by the in-your-face political displays. Sure. Alrighty then.

Novak was given the boot. No fans in the stands. Like mlb, nba, nfl, horse racing, golf, nhl - without fans, homefield advantage, full seasons, etc, it's all asterisk seasons, imo. Lifetime sports fan and multiple season ticket holder NFL MLB. I don't watch, dont plan to - has nothing to do with political messages.
