I guess the saying that one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist still is true, but Mandela only fought for equal rights just like Martin Luther King JR.
So, are some Americans saying that if MLK had not been assassinated he should end up on the Terror Watch List with Mandela?

South Africas always been a violent country. Today it is one of the wealthier African countries and has the best prospects, however. Nelson Mandela is also a great leader becaue he advocated reconciliation in a country that could have easily decayed into a civil war- he could have been a very bitter person but he chose not to be. He got up in front of an all-white football (soccer) team and cheered them on, for no other reason than that they represented his country reborn. I think that makes him a great leader.

Yes, Mandela had a past history of "terrorism"- fighting a government that didn't recognize his peoples' rights, you know, the right to not have a car battery hooked to your genitals or a son to have a father. By that definition George Washington was also a terrorist.

I guess rules are rules and we can't make any exceptions, right?
Yeah, that's the thing about throwing around words like "terrorist". The fact is, one persons' terrorist is another persons' freedom fighter. In fact, sometimes one persons' terrorist is the same persons' freedom fighter later on. Many among the historical leadership of Israel for example were most certainly terrorists when they were young (from the British point of view).

The Afghan rebels were freedom fighters when the fought the Soviets in Afghanistan, but terrorists when they attack US troops in Afghanistan.

The fact is, in truth the term "terrorist" is WAYYYYYYYY overused and often completely mis-used (mostly by folks who have a particular political agenda).

In the final analysis, if they are attacking YOU or YOUR ALLIES, then they are terrorists. If they are attacking YOUR ENEMIES, then they are freedom fighters. It really has NOTHING to do with whether or not they kill innocent people or whether or not they are really in the "right".

Oh yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of whites who think that way - most of them just won't admit it.

A sad fact of life, I'm afraid.
