Due to budget shortfalls resulting from the made up crisis called COVID.

Way to stay fair and progressive.

Blacks dont do track and field? That is 2 of the 4 sports eliminated. There is a whole host of cuts elsewhere. This looks more like cuts to sports that do not produce a lot of revenue for any university.

There is a 99.99999% chance the university is infested with woke trash and SJW stupidity, but this looks to me more like a straight up cut for budget reasons.

Since when is Track and Field a white man’s sport??!!!

And while tennis is way more “white”, there are plenty of black tennis players.

Yep. It’s because those sports draw fewer crowds, so bring in less money.

I don't see racial bias just gender bias, William & Mary had to make similar cuts and cut both mens & womans programs.

Thread fail. Lots of universities are canceling lots of sports due to finances- I was just reading about it happening at Stanford. Nothing to do with race.

Mods should delete this thread.

Totally reasonable decision during an economic downturn due to Covid-19. Football, basketball and hockey carry all the other sports at Minnesota. Without stadiums filling up, they have to make hard choices.

Once the pandemic is over, I’m sure all the sports will be back.

“White mens sports!” SMGDH. Unbelievable.

I see lots of non-whites on that roster. Track and Field is not a white sport. I’m a coach for track and cross country at the middle school level. Was a runner at the high school level. I’m telling you you’re wrong on this one.

'Mostly' white was accurate for the UM men's and women's track and field teams. The men's and women's tennis teams are all white.

Still, cancels four 'men's' teams rather than 'white' men's teams is the better description because this is a Title IX issue, not a race issue.
