Reason might be the slave to passion, but passion is an emotions and not a person.

Some of Hume's work would not be acceptable today however that doesn't mean we can not learn from it.

Unfortunately Hume was born before his insight could be fully appreciated.

Hume was countering contemporary philosophers who claimed reason was all. And I think he was right that, however rational we may strive to be, passions do ultimately drive us, so it's important to cultivate a positive, productive attitude in life.

So a preeminent philosopher that had impact on others like Adam Smith should be canceled for a guy who killed himself with a lethal dose of Fentanyl that has a rap sheet that includes putting a gun into a pregnant woman's belly, because that is less offensive in the year 2020 than what Hume said in the 1700s.
