Seriously - if you have to prefix education like that, it's no longer education. "Patriotic education", that's advertising the intent to be biased right then, right there.
Teach the nation's history, warts and all, show the kids that they're extremely lucky to live in a time and place where they'll hold a vote and have a say, and then have some trust in your declared ideals. If you have to say "our country is superior and the envy of the world", you're admitting to whole lot of insecurity already.

American children need to be taught to love America, its flag, its Pledge of Allegiance, its National anthem, its Constitution and form of government, and its war heroes. They also need to be taught the evils of communism and Nazism.
This is called patriotic education and right thinking.
They also need to be trained to criticize their own nation. Otherwise it's blind patriotism, which is nationalism. Combined with hate for others on the outside and those who their leader deems are "enemies o the state", it becomes Fascism.

you have to be pretty naive to think there would be no educators, education system, job training programs, etc. if the state didnt provide them. I posit we'd have an overall smarter society if it didn't.

Keep believing that because most parents are not prepared to be their child's primary learning source and what has come from the "politically motivated school closures" is that most people have realized that. Playing home school teacher looks cute when their young but the shine wears off as they get older and your their daily interaction all day every day, forget the career you once enjoyed.
The only thing destructive and horrible is the thought that whole generations will go backwards in their knowledge when ill prepared parent(s) or fly by night schools both secular and even worse faith base are the sources for their education.
I wasn't suggesting parents become the teacher (although some can), I'm saying they should direct the education of their own children to a learning platform of their own choosing.
Stop taxing the people for the states propaganda centers as well remove its monopoly on education and parents will have choices and the economic resources to make them.
You can still opt to fund the states system and send your children to it if you wish. Why would you deny others the same freedom of choice? Do you think you know better than everyone else?
Trump is literally trying to change history and is the one doing the indoctrination. This is very similar to the propaganda distributed to the Hitler Youth. Do not be fooled, Trump has no respect the constitution or this country is will just try to govern has he pleases. This is how fascism starts, if we don't do anything about it.

Brain washing or teaching kids to think and question? Just because someone doesn't get in line and sing from the Trump Songbook doesn't mean they hate the country. As Lincoln said is this not "A government of the people, by the people and for the people" that doesn't mean that ever generation will interpret this in the same way.
I'm sure the same sentiments were expressed back in the 60's when the younger generations started questioning the way things were and pushed to change them...
