People are already complaining bout the money we spend on war. Can not have it both ways.

My mistake, it is 400000 now with a 29 dollar a month premium paid out of basic pay. My ex has been out for 5 years. But it is not paid by the govt, it is an insurance policy that is thorugh the govt because military members cannot get war insurance. So if you do not die, you have paid about 8000 dollars in a 20 year career to the govt. Since I do not know what the pay out rate is, it is a good deal for the military member because they cannot get good insurance out in the real world, and if they don't get it and die, the govt gives the family around 10000 all done. These are figures from 2006, so hopefully things are better.
Hm. Well there's your silver lining. "Iraq War as Jobs Plan".
Problem is our American contractors that support our training and technology efforts are being cut out as we divert more and more money into the hands of the Iraqi govt building efforts and to costlier than expected operations. We are having our own government budgets slashed and our own people people put out of work to pay Iraqis and for energy costs.
Well we did bomb all their buildings..why shouldn't we pay to reconstruct them ?
We also helped construct their government so why shouldn't we pay for guns for their military ?
You can't have it both ways folks..if you want to invade and give them democracy then you have to stay and clean up the mess.
Thats an easy number to calculate... 531 Billion spent on the war (so far)... about 155k troops in Iraq now... so about 3.4M is spent for every troop on the ground in Iraq... We have been there since 2003 so thats five years... for 685k per troop per year in costs... I don't know about you but 685k per troop is a bit excessive (SOMEBODY is dipping their hands in the cookie jar and it smells like the Pentagon)... How a troop spends 685k per year is beyond me... but back to your question.. how much is a marine's life worth? Whatever their annual salary is + life insurance policies... that's it... their families should probably have gotten at least 685k since that's how much they were worth for just ONE year of service... probably more than their annual salary + life insurance policy...

But I never wanted them to go there in the first place.
