Given what we knew about the virus at ten time shutting the boarder was the right call and still is today. The only thing we would do now is quarantine and test coming in, but it is stupid to say in hindsight when we did not yet have those thing that we should have been doing them!
The virus got here somehow lack of testing is what allowed it to spread around. I can't see how it could have been stopped anyway. In early months of 2020 testing took a week even the WHO test did. Unless customs was going to quarantine 1000's of people returning to the US which they won't. Trump's ban on travel to the US was only on non US citizens had zero impact on the spread not sure what else any President could have done at that point.
