To protect themselves against hate assaults as a result of trump's "Chinese Virus" rhetoric.
Quote:
And as COVID-19 spreads across the country, so does misinformation and xenophobia. Rhetoric from some politicians, including President Donald Trump, fueled the scapegoating of Asians of bringing the virus to the United States.

In just a week’s time, an online reporting center recorded nearly 700 discriminatory acts against Asian Americans in the U.S. Many, including women, elderly and children, were verbally harassed. Some were spit on, shunned or attacked at stores. Fearful of becoming the next target, some have chosen to arm themselves to protect their family.
Gun stores are reporting a sharp rise in the number of Asian people purchasing firearms to protect themselves from racist attacks amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Where do most Chinese-Americans live? Mobile, Alabama or Boonieville, Iowa? No
Most Chinese Americans live in their ethnic enclave areas of Chicago, NYC, LA, SF, Seattle, etc all liberal progressive cities. I don't think they are buying guns to protect themselves from KKK or Skinheads in liberal cities. They are more likely to buy guns to protect themselves from....you know who
The following comment, from the gun store owner, in your link explains it all....
""They're all coming in because the media is telling them that Asians are being targeted, Chinese are being targeted.""
"the media is telling them" they are targets.
Maybe if the media wasn't fearmongering the virus then they would be buying guns in record numbers, like the rest of the country has been doing, because of the rioters.
