It avoids the inevitable "whoever Trump picks for the SCOTUS nomination raped me at a party 30 years ago" accusation that would come up for any male nomination he would've made. A sad reality but a pragmatic approach.

Trump announces that he’s going to pick a woman to replace Ginsberg. Now he’s a sexist for not choosing the “best qualified” whether that be a man or woman.
No it is that he wants Amy Barrett who is anti-abortion and they fear one of the heartbeat bill lawsuits will get to the Supreme Court and restrict abortion to the first 6 weeks. The problem is a number of women dont know they are pregnant yet, and issues that an abortion is needed for aren't there at that point...

How is this not sexism? Trump vows to appoint a woman
I don't have a problem with that. I think there are many, many qualified candidates out there, so picking a woman would be just as easy as picking a man. A woman may be easier to confirm that a man, and that is worth considering, these days.

I am not arguing, I am laying out the folly of your reasoning. (no offense intended)

Just out of curiosity, when Justice Thomas leaves the court, must that seat be filled with another black person?
When the "wise Latina" leaves, must that seat now always go to another brown person, without exception?
Same with future yellow or red persons seats?

Is that really how you think, and if so why?

He already appointed two men so it's ok with me.

It would be ok with me also, if he didn't announce it like that idiot Biden did.

He was most likely to have Barrett as the next pick anyway, regardless of which justice left. I just don't like him acting like a goofball saying he likes women better than men, thus he is going to choose a woman for the seat.
Yes, I know it is him joking on some level, but I think some decorum is in order, and certainly he should never play into the identity politics game.

The Democrats are full of it, like they always are. They know damn well that if the situation was reversed and they were in the same position they'd be getting their own nominee appointed ASAP. If they say differently, they are lying through their teeth. There is NO way either party would risk giving away a SC appointment under any circumstance.

This is all bluster and blather from the bleeding heart goofballs on the left. They can't be THAT stupid to think DJT would just give them a chance at a liberal justice appointment. Or maybe that are that stupid.

No matter who DJT nominates, the radical liberal left won't like it, but they don't like anything anyway, so who cares what they think?

Maybe he's already made up his mind. The individual will be female because his pick is a woman not because it has to be a woman.
