Do not sully Lincoln's name.
Neither party is in any way similar to what they were in 1860. The Democrats were huge states' rights, small federal government folks back then. They supported slavery. They supported Jim Crow. They were about as polar opposite from the present Democrats as you could possibly get. The Republicans haven't changed much in 160 years. They do offer lip service to states rights, but don't do much to advance things there much. They remain the party of Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. If you want to succeed in life, get out there and make it happen. The government will clear obstacles born of prejudice out of your way, but it's up to you after that. Like they were doing with slavery back then, they adopt and fight for moral causes. Things like pornography and abortion. Both parties are pretty much equal equal on warmongering and meddling in the affairs of other nations at this point. The Democrats have definitely changed far far far more than the Republicans.

I do think it's tiresome to dig up dead people from almost 200 years ago and presume to speak for them. Take a group of 1860's Democrats and Republicans and bring them forward in time and they'd be awestruck by our advancement and technology and horrified by our immorality and debauchery. Every one of them would likely drop dead from shock seeing a bunch of bikini clad girls walking around at the beach.

Just did a zoom call with an Indian-American friend who lives in the heart of the Bible belt and he confirmed that yes, in order to be truly accepted by the "good ole boys" of the deep South, you have to either be Christian or pretend to be Christian. I think we need to start a legit third party dedicated to Libertarians with REAL power. I want real freedom rather than being forced into little boxes. What about Penn and Teller for president and V.P?

I take you lean left, OP? Because only the left brings up race and religion.
Yup. The very idea that the OP thought the question was worth creating a thread over????

Conservatives support and promote the Rights and freedoms in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Republicans belong to the party that freed the slaves. Why in the hell someone would wonder if either Conservatives or Republicans are bigots???

I think this is just proof of how successful the hateful propaganda from the Democrats and the news media have been.

I don't care what religion anyone practices. Neither should anyone else but there's always those who denigrate others for a whole host of reasons.

Agree, Robert Byrd (Democrat) was a head klansmen and a good friend of Biden.

There will be someone who will mock someone’s belief, even Christian beliefs, you see it on the board.

And especially in the South - it often matters what church you go to. You'd have to ask why Jindal and Haley took on Christianity, when they weren't Christian to begin with (Haley is from a Sikh cultural background).
Perhaps they were raised Christian, or they had a conversion experience later in life. I was raised Roman Catholic, with priest uncles on both side of the family. I did the alter boy thing, and all the Catholic sacraments, went to Catholic school, and was immersed in it. But I never really understand who Jesus was or what Christianity and the Gospel was until an Evangelical guy approached me when I was 19 years old. It wasn't anything heavy handed, just a casual conversation. I was surrounded by very "religious" people in my family but I was just going through the motions. When this guy talked to me it was like a light went on. Not everyone takes on a religion for political expediency. Sometimes it is a simple life changing experience.

Well I'm not a Republican. But I cant really be called a leftist so, I'll give it a go. Hindus. OK. Well I tend to try my best not to trouble anyone about their religion so long as they don't trouble me about mine.

Hindus are quite accommodating that way, As are Sikhs. Muslims can be a tad ...overbearing..as can many sects of Christians. But since Hindus are the topic, they dont bother me at all.

Matter of fact there are parts of Hinduism I find quite fascinating if not downright pleasant. I'm more conservative than liberal but the liberal aspects of my outlook have me viewing Hindus in a positive light.

And if he saw what Obama, Biden and party had done, and continue to do, to this country then he'd say "shoot me now".
