Is the Senate Required to Have a Hearing Prior to the Vote?

The Republicans never treated a Democrat nominee the way the Democrats treated Kavanaugh. Why would you be OK destroying someone like that, just due to partisan politics?

Or, failing that, can they vote to have a limited time for a hearing - say, one day - and THEN move to the vote?
You need to turn Limbaugh off. Confirming a justice for a lifetime appointment without vetting would be the equivalent of sobering up a drunk behind Waffle House and putting them in charge of your accounting department.

What happens if your judge turns out to have been a Marxist masquerading as a conservative...?

There’s vetting....and then there’s the equivalent of a public lynching. We’ve all seen how low Democrats can go.

A hearing isn't a background check or an investigation !!! The FBI does a background check !!!
The democrats in the last SCOTUS hearing themselves called for the FBI to do more investigation !!! They wanted to do the same thing that was done hoping for a different result !!! It was seen correctly as a delaying tactic and will likely be used again this time !!!

Seeing what the democrats want to do, nothing they want to do would be OK !!!

Dems have already vetted all candidates--- anybody that Trump nominates is a poor choice they will not consider.

What the democrats will drag our country through will not be “vetting” — it will be ugly vile anarchy, character assassinations, lies, fake news, and hoaxes.....

Skip the hearing. Barrett and Lagoa were recently confirmed so they've been vetted. There is NO good reason to give the Democrats another platform to smear and personally attack the nominee and her family. That's exactly what would happen.

I hope so, because confirming a judge without vetting will establish a precedent that will not be at all good for the country in the long run. Once again, republicans are being short sighted. They cannot see the long term ramifications of winning a battle but losing the war.

Greed will be the death of this republic.

The nominee, whether it's Barrett or Lagoa, was vetted recently when approved for her current position. Your party shouldn't get another Kavanaugh debacle, but if they do that will elect an even bigger Senate GOP majority.
