Why should it bother you, when it no longer exists?
That is for Congress to decide.
They were never open. Executive branch enforces immigration with the funds given to it by the Congress
Etc
None of the issues you list are SC issues.
It bothers me because the Obama administration said over and over it was not a tax, but then a flawed SCOTUS decided on their own it was a tax, making it constitutional. The fact that the SCOTUS decided to change the argument so they could push their agenda should be alarming to everyone. That's not their job. We should never have an activist court.
Regarding the other two items, everything can run through the SCOTUS if taken there. If the insane part of the Democrat party starts implementing insane things and we have a conservative SCOTUS, we can undo some of the crap they have planned. That is much more valuable to me than just 4 more years of Trump. Ideally I would love to have both, but I would pick a 6-3 and have that cost Republicans the election to make sure we get it.
Look at what happened in Pennsylvania? A Federal Judge just struck down Gov. Wolf's orders. He is trying to appeal, but after RBG's death and possibly a sixth conservative justice, no way is SCOTUS going to overturn that. I highly believe they will with a conservative majority. State of Emergency can only last for a certain amount of time.
I wholeheartedly applaud the Pennsylvania decision! But it was a very narrow stricture against a particular overreach of executive power. Dial back the overreach just a smidgen, and the decision no longer applies. A new executive order can be made, with new overreach, taking months (years?) to reach the courts. Even if the courts strike down such overreach repeatedly, up it comes again, and again. The only lasting remedy is legislative.
Now imagine that by some miracle, as suitable case reaches the Supreme Court, and these worthies issue a scathing ruling, calling all such power-grabs unconstitutional. Then we'll have another Roe vs. Wade... a lasting harsh division and shrill cries that an activist court is legislating from the bench, circumventing the will of the people.
We need modernized, broad laws curbing executive power at the federal, state and local level. Judges and Justices who rule against executive overreach, are absolutely welcome, and are a great thing! But they're not enough. We need laws to protect us - not just men and women in robes.

It's still alive and well, in the "sovereign" state of California.

It IS a tax, in the sense of a charge levied onto people whose income exceeds a certain threshold, but who don't fit a demographic that behaves a certain way - namely, persons who have workplace health insurance, or who are over 65. In a similar way, singles without kids get taxed higher, than parents or married people.
What would you strike down? How would a conservative court benefit you?
Admit it, you have no clue.
Let me guess:
Overturn gay marriage
Rewrite the Constitution to exclude immigrants from the census to give rural voters an even getter say in the running of the country
Overturn Roe V Wade
Make birth control difficult to get or illegal
Overturn the Equal Pay Act for women including Title VII so discrimination can be "great again"
Make Social Security illegal*
Make Medicare illegal*
Overturn Obamacare*
Take MORE money from urban centers and give it to the rurals
Close the Department of Education
Close the EPA
Close the BLM
That's just a start.
*Except for rural evangelicals. Think that can't happen? Guess again. Trump's GOP gave coal miners billions in taxpayer money just because. They've given farmers so many billions in taxpayer money, the farmers are laughing all the way to the bank. Trump's GOP is all about taking billions from blue cities and states and giving it to their own voters while screaming about socialism.
I'm fine with returning Roe V Wade to the states as long as my tax money doesn't go to pay for the children born to desperately poor mothers in those states. That should be funded 100% by the state themselves.

They have absolutely no idea what a conservative dominated court would do to the working class. If they were smart, they’d read “ Injustices: The Supreme Court's History of Comforting the Comfortable and Afflicting the Afflicted”.
You want an America that Sam Alito or Clarence Thomas wishes we had? Lol...conservatives would shudder at the prospect if they REALLY knew.
Clarence Thomas: the guy who along with Antonin Scalia, voted to overturn Miranda. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Every stupid anti-constitutional firearms law the left has come up with. Does that help? Mag bans, ammo bans. Every dumb law that criminals will never care about.... those?
The SC nomination is a big middle finger to all the Democrats for their 4 years of BS given to Trump... karma karma karma.
I'll take both... but if I had to choose one I'd go with the 6-3 majority. Either way, I think we'll be getting both and can enjoy those delicious liberal tears flowing until Jan. 20th, 2025. One of you out there please send me a few vials... I use liberal tears to clean my guns.
